PS3 Bundle worth it?

The read speed does affect loading. PS3 games load noticeably slower than 360 games do. Some games install on the HDD precisely because of slow read speeds, which is an effective measure. Stop getting so worked up everytime you see something remotely negative being said about the PS3. I know you are a PS3 fanboy simply by looking at your sig which you have donned since before the PS3 was even released - you are just going to have to put up with the fact that a majority of OCUK members favor the 360, and for good reason. If you can't handle it, go to ps3fanboy.com instead, instead of throwing a hissy girly fit. Grow up.

Youre hardly one to be throwing out fanboy comments ! Youve got a 360 so far up your bum bum its got 4 red rings!

& i aint a fanboy. My current sig theme is ps3? Yes and? As ive said enough times i own both consoles im just defending the stupid 360 fanboy comments that are made so regularly! The OP asked about which type of PS3 he wanted! Not 360 is better. :)

Mate you aint got a clue, theres no way 2x blu-ray speed negatively affects gaming, load times arent even relatively long, the transfer rate is enough, hense why they released it!
Wrong, read articles and you'll see I'm right.
On top of that, the fact some games are on a disc twice (a la Oblivion), or slow loading, or even requiring installation.
There are loads of articles out there. Read some.
Most famously is the delay of Grand Theft Auto 4, which is being delayed due to the drive speed of the PS3.
And what are all these things that psn lacks so much in comparison to live, apart from a price tag? Achievements?lol.
Achievements are one important thing, yes. Achievements have shifted a LOT of titles on the Xbox360, whether you agree with them or not.
Reputation for users.
Complaint system.
Unified friends list.
Ability to message in game - both send and recieve.
Different chats from game chats between users.
Game comparisons with users on your friends list.
Games aint an issue anymore, how many more exclusives are 360 releasing over ps3 next year?? Cant you just stick to 360 threads???
Why, when I own all 3 consoles. More than some...
On top of that, it doesn't matter. Microsoft pushed exclusives available THIS calender year at E3.
Because exclusives haven't been announced doesn't mean they aren't coming. But Fable 2, Ninja Gaiden 2 and Alan Wake are 3 major ones... I could name more, but why, you'll just conveniently ignore them no doubt.
OP asked whether he should get a 40gb or 60gb PS3!!!!!!!! console.
Which I answered. I also gave an honest opinion on top.

Youre hardly one to be throwing out fanboy comments ! Youve got a 360 so far up your bum bum its got 4 red rings!
The video connector came out the console? On top of that, the new ones don't show 4 red-rings.

Quite interested in which comments were 'stupid'. Not only that, all comments are factually correct.

Actually it does affect load times and Ninja Gaiden Sigma is one that suffers from it quite badly (I even have it installed on the Harddrive and its still far from perfect). Every time I re-enter a part of a screen I've just visited literally seconds ago the game will stutter to a stop and have trouble loading the data for 2-3 seconds and it gets damn annoying when I'm in the middle of a fight since its such a fast paced game. I never had this problem with the Ninja Gaiden Black on Xbox and suspect I wont have the problem with Ninja Gaiden 2 on 360 next year either.

As Nokkon already said the read speed is a problem otherwise developers wouldnt put the same core data 2-3x on the disc so it has a quicker seek time and the same applies with installing core data to the harddrive to quicken the load times.

But blu-ray 2x speed equates to 72MB/s !!

http://www.blu-ray.com/faq/#bluray_speed

Whereas 16x DVD can only do 21MB/s

http://www.videohelp.com/dvd

1x speed on blu-ray is 36MB/s so 2x is 72MB/s which is needed because Blu-ray films are recorded at 54MB/s.

Therefore 2x speed on blu-ray is not slow.

Wrong.

http://uk.gamespot.com/pages/profile/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=23916169&user=skektek

Blu-ray 2x: 72Mbp / 8MBps
12x DVD: 66 - 132Mbps / 8.2 - 16.5MBps

At 2x Blu-ray can read as fast as 12x DVD's minimum read speed.

Think he needs maths lessons 72/8 does not equal 8 its 9 lol. So why are we talking about 360's in this thread? The OP said he dont want a 360 for whatever reason its his choice, so why is this thread talking about buy a 360 this, 12xdvd is faster, xbox live this etc etc to Ad nauseam. So if your comments are about a 360 post in another thread the OP asked a question about which bundle to get not which bundle or a 360.:)

What the **** are you even talking about. I have not said once that the 360 is better. Get the **** out you stupid ****. You have really ****** me off now, with your irrational bleating and your goddamn whiny posts. Whaaa whaaa PS3 whaaa whaaa. I don't even like the 360 all that much! I haven't even turned it on since Halo 3 came out, while the PS3's been getting a ton of playtime! Shows what you know. You have one of the most selective memories of anyone on this board. The other guys who devote more time to their PS3s like Inosishi and Wannabedamned are smart and reasonable and they know exactly what I am saying, and vice versa, but with you it's like having a conversation with a 5 year old. Ignore list for you.

Agreed, In the OP. It was said 360 wasn't an issue. PS3 60 or 40. 360 shouldn't have even been mentioned. After it was made clear he didn't want one. For whatever reason he has chosen.

It's hard to recommend the 40GB over the 60GB - the 60GB has way more bang for its buck when you see that it has 20GB more, and backwards compatibility to boot. It is obviously more expensive, but the gap more than justifies the additions. If you simply just want to play PS3 games and watch movies and already have a PS2, then the 40GB probably is the better choice. I didn't have a PS2 when the PS3 was released, so the BC was a massive benefit. Granted there are minor issues here and there, but I've not noticed any of them on the biggest PS2 games. The PS3 also gives the PS1 and PS2 games extra smoothing as well, to dull the impact of pixellated graphics. Games like Snake Eater and God of War 2 look amazing, and rival quite a lot of current gen games. I don't know if the 40GB can still play PS1 games off the PSN.

Taken from elsewhere (a shop)

60GB PS3 vs 40GB PS3

Here is a summary (updated) of the differences between the 60GB PS3 and the 40GB PS3 (UK Specs). It's not just the storage capacity that's changed.

1. Price
A bit obvious this one, but at £299 the 40GB PS3 will be about £50 cheaper than the 60GB version. The price for the 60GB PS3 console will drop to £349*. This should bring the PS3 price more inline with the Xbox 360, unless Microsoft do a tit for tat and drop the price of the 360 again.

2. Ethernet Ports
Unchanged. A lot of people are reporting a loss of ethernet ports, but the 60GB console only ever shipped with one ethernet port in the UK. The two other ethernet ports were intended to provide ethernet hub functionality.

3. HDMI Ports
Unchanged. The 40GB version will have one HDMI port, as did the 60GB UK PS3. There was a dual HDMI version of the 60GB PS3, but it never made it to the UK. Dual HDMI ports enabled you to do dual screen 1080P, but how many people own or even have the space to run two 1080P screens anyway?!

4. USB Ports
Two USB ports vs the 60GB console's four USB ports.

5. Flash Memory Card Slots
The 40GB Console has no multi memory card port for SD cards etc.

6. Controller Vibration
Still no controller vibration for the 40GB console. Sony were complaining that the vibration on the DualShock 2 would interfere with the motion sensor, but this might have something to do with a lawsuit that Sony was fighting for copyright infringement.

7. PS2 games compatibility
No backward compatibility with PS2 games for the 40GB PS3. Sony said something about saving money here by not paying for emulation licences.

Pay no attention to the controller vibration thing, the DS3 is around the corner, and you can get them via import. So it's a £50 gap for 2 USB ports, PS2 console functionality, multi-memory card ports and everything the 40GB does. Your money will go much further with the 60GB version. The 4 USB ports you will use without knowing it, I have a mouse and keyboard plugged in it for using the browser and PSN store, with the other two for charging controllers (not that you will charge more than one at a time very often). The lack of multi-memory ports will also make doing photos and file transfers and such on the PS3 a hassle (some of my PS3 wallpapers are shots taken from the Mediterranean) Basically, if you are going to take full advantage of the features of the PS3, you won't be able to do so effectively with the 40GB.

Amen to that...thats all ive being trying to get across from the beginning!

Main thing with DVD speed vs Bluray speed, And the reason it's defiantly hard to compare is if you look into DVD speeds, Its showing top speeds, Where as with Bluray, The speed is a constant.

So Variable speed Vs Constant speed is hard to compare. Yes DVD top speed is faster, But the constant speed of blurays slower speed needs to be equated too.

As I always say, These stats and hardware facts mean nothing in the long run. Developers make games work in the most case, Slow Blu ray speeds arent a problem, Neither is the split memory.

Just like the 360's DVD capacity isnt a problem

Developers work the pluses and minuses

The problem is, they have been a problem, as seen in ports for both formats for the last year.
They'll get used to it, but as of right now, the PS3 is the worst of the 2 consoles for gaming. He never said he didn't want an Xbox360, he said he wanted a PS3. All I said is if he wanted to copy his friends then that's fine, however if he wants a games machine then the Xbox360 is the best one to get. Which it is.

Just thought I'd point out. as you problem missed it that the OP did say he didnt want a 360 ;

So for Christmas i am thinking of treating myself to a nice ps3 as all my friends have one and im intrigued by the games. But firstly should i get a 40gb or 60gb? I found a deal from a well known gameing website a 40gb model with assassins creed (a game i really want) and ghost recon and with a 10% student discount comes out at £300. Or i could splash out a little bit more on a 60gb model with resistance, motorstorm(2 games all my friends have) assassins creed and Pro evo 2008 Another game i like but no to fussed if i dnt have it this is £400 but comes out at £360.
So opinions please and no i don't want a 360 for varies reasons
Thanks Pat

So I highlighted it for you.:)
