PS3 Confusion?

I keep reading reviews that say PS3 is better than 360 etc. I have a 360 but will probably pick up a PS3 anyway. i just need clarification on a couple of things.

Can you "live" chat and in game chat like 360. ( best part of online gaming imo)

What is the lobby like?

It's all so vague...makes me worry that things are not going so well for the format.

There isnt any online chat at the minute as far as im aware. Also the lobby is a bit crap compared to 360.

tbh, if your into online gaming then the 360 is where it's at as Xbox live is giant over Sony's netplay.

The 360 and PS3 are remarkably the same to all intents and purposes with regards to their processing power etc.. this has been acknowledged by all the noteworthy developers / technical reviews..

Obviously where the PS3 is better is in the fact it has a built-in blu-ray player, which you obviously pay for, but none the less it is included in the asking price..
You can of course add a HD-DVD drive to the 360, but this isn't a one box solution..

Online wise, the seemless chat function of the 360, and the whole interface is much more integrated and mature, the PS3's online is acceptable, although it's much harder for developers to add online support for their games, and hence why some titles are not multiplayer on the PS3 that will be on the 360..
But you can still download demo's etc on the PS3, so it's not completely barren.. and it's 'free'..

I personally like the seemless integration and features of Xbox live, and think it's well worth the money..

Don't let ElRazur hear you say that!
Lol, don't worry Raz if you're reading... online game's are a novalty to me and I still prefer the PS3 overall if i'm honest!

So if you have mates..then stay 360. No Mates PS3? :D

Seriously i am happy to pay £40 a year for live subs with video chat, mate taunting etc.
I will still get a PS£ but maybe in the new year. I only want it for MGS anyway.

I have plenty of mates but I'm just not that into online gaming... I got into the whole Counterstrike and battlefield games online for a while but then got bored. The problem with online gaming is that you have to be good and to get good you need to put in the hours of practice, whereas I can only squeeze in a bit of gaming here and there so I'm always out of practice.

The way I see it is that the 360 needs to address it's hardware quality, noise issues and lack of HDMI output - which they are doing. The PS3 needs to address it's online gaming system - which it is doing. So when all the creases are ironed out of each system it will be down to wether or not you want a HD movies player built in or not!

You'll get a £425 console for a single game? I want what you're earning!

Tbh I dont really play any of the games online, or at least I havent yet. Maybe I will give it a go in the future when I get more time - what's your XBL ID?

For now though I will stick with playing Saints Row with tearing and the volume up to drown out the whine of the consoles DVD drive ;)

I know what you're saying..I was only kidding about the no mates comment. :)
I have to agree. Sony have a far better chance to fix it's problems than Microsoft as they are mostly software related ( It's not like they haven't had time to do it?). The lack of true Digital connections and Noisy drives with stupidly limited space are an issue that Microsoft are going to expect the end user to pay to replace.
