PS3 console failed

So i turned it on, ylod or whatever it is called, so I contact the retailer I ordered it from for a replacement and they said yeah send it back etc, so i asked what i should do with my hard drive has it has personal info, games, saves etc on it and they just said "Unfortunately we require this back in order for us to send you a replacement." so does that mean I've lost everything on my hard drive now? :/

I'm not certain, but can you not just use an external drive to back it up through USB, or failing that can you just plug it into your pc and back everything up there?

oh btw you cannnot access your data/save games unless you get your hard drive working in the original PS3 console (which is broken)

yes im in same boat. Now on I save all my games to pen drive after I play.

But its weird how many people recently getting YLOD....hackers?

I don't really think hackers could make a PS3 YLOD unless they stopped the fans working

I think it could be, the few YOLD‘s I've heard about have been on the old phat PS3, which are a ticking time bomb anyway

Your welcome back games will be tied to your account.

Everything you've bought is tied to your PSN account, you just register your new console with your account and it will all become available to download again.

The only thing you've lost is saves, so yes FF9 is gone. In future i suggest you backup to a external HDD every month or so like i do. I know it's not ideal but it's better than losing your saves. Or get PSN+ and use the online backup feature.

I am also pretty sure that your personal details are written into the firmware or cache rather than the hard drive. You can set up all your details etc with psn etc. If you remove or fit a new hard drive those details are still embedded until you delete them.

And if you call the PSN support line they will also be able to sort out your game activations (You are only allowed 5 activations per game i think) And as you have downloaded/installed/activated on your old console you have lost 1 activation because your console has gone faulty through none of your fault. They will ammend this most people wouldnt bother.

Yes coincidence. I heard about just as many YLOD before the hack/update.

I cant believe im still using the same PS3 since release date and had no problems......I am on it almost every single day! going strong :eek:

How long is the warranty on these YLOD issues on the PS3? I mean, how long from the day of purchase of my PS3 can I send back for repair/replacement if I receive the YLOD?

i think a lot of people get YLOD from flashing to new firmware, could be a coincidence, but if something is going wrong during the flashing procedure (bad firmware downloads, no hash checks, some incorrect/corrupted bytes) then it could quite easily cause it to fail either straight after or soon after when it carried out a specific operation where the corrupted software is used.

The best PS3s are the first batch and the slims. Anything besides those are going to break.
