PS3 controller and DIRT2.

Hi there,

I followed this video to get my PS3 controller working on W7 64bit - works a treat!

However, in DIRT2, the analogue steering is a bit off. It's kinda hard to explain, so bare with me.

The analogue steering input works as it would on the console. However, if I make a quick, micro-adjustment - however small - in any direction, the steering detects an instant "snap" 100% full lock as like when using the keyboard.

Essentially, I could go from zero (centered) to 35% left in an instant (say, zero time; thumb twitch) and the game would detect a 100% left input for the duration of the time spent off center. However if I move to 35% gradually, the input remains analogue and increases as I move the stick to the left.

So if I'm cruising down a straight at 120mph and flick out a quick left adjustment to avoid a puddle or something, the game detects an instance of full lock which results in massive oversteer and loss of control.

I've tried adjusting all the steering settings in game, and calibrating the controller in Windows, but nothing has fixed it.

Any ideas, gang? I hope I explained this unique and strange problem well enough.

Yes - but the 360 controller is officially supported ;)

This is quite an annoying problem! I love DIRT2: it looks amazing. But the twitchy, digital-esque steering is ruining it for me :(

Are you using the 0.400 Beta Motioninjoy.com drivers or an older version? If you're using the 0.4's then enable "Xbox 360 Controller Emulation" from the DS3 Tool control panel, this should mimic a wireless 360 controller and *may* perform much better. If you aren't using the 0.4's, or are but don't have the 360 controller emulation enabled, games don't perform as well as they are relying on a 3rd party driver, whereas the 360 emulation uses the official Microsoft drivers.

I couldn't be bothered with that! It's far too easy just to use an xbox360 controller. Dirt 2 plays pefectly with it just like just about all games from the couple of years. I've never even attempted to use my PS3 controllers in a PC game.

That's a thought. However the .4s require a different install technique to the one in that video; the files are different!
