PS3 Controller or XBOX 360 Controller?

I prefer PS controller. Its more comfortable and makes more sense but I've only just started using a 360 controller but I'm already annoyed with the asymmetric layout and pants d-pad. The triggers are a nice shape but the springs are too strong for long periods of gaming, which is a shame because that's what I use it for (Fallout, Mass Effect, Super Meat Boy).

Controllers suck at FPS just use a mouse and keyboard.

I would not have a PS3 in my house because the pad is so bad.

I've never used a similar pad(ps3) on the PC, and wouldn't in a million years.

360 pad all the way, it makes sense too since it's made by Microsoft.

From what I read here the ps controller is recognized by windows as a x360 controller. So, any game that works with the x360 should work with the ps controller too.

Button icons will not change though because games "think" that you have a x360 controller.

Again I haven't tested it, but that's what I understood from reading this

p.s. I have both controllers and the x360 dpad sucks. Stick with the ps controller, miles better

If you have a PS controller, there is an emulator you can place in your game folder to make the game and PC think it is a 360 pad. But only for the games that have the emulator in the folder. It does make the button assignments a bit funny, but it works.

A native 360 pad wouldn't have those issues, but like I said, I think I would prefer a PS pad for my emulator. Might just bite the bullet and buy one of each soon.

i think it depends entirely on what game you're playing and in-turn what part of the controller you're using.

For example, if you're primarily using the analogue stick (and maybe the analogue shoulder buttons for racers and the like) then i'd say xbox is better. But the d-pad on the xbox really does suck a BIG fat one so i'd choose a PS pad instead if you were going to use that more.

360 controller all the way for me, the rounded thumbsticks on the PS3 pad are awful, my thumb slips off them, with the indented sticks on the 360 controller you don't have to exert downward pressure to hold a direction like you do on the PS3 pad. Much better design imho

The best choice for the OP would be to have both.
The PS2 pad is better for retro emulation as the button layout and d-pad is spot on, the 360 pad can't be beaten for FPS, driving games and is future proof with GFWL requirements.
Win win tbh.

Or do what I have, I have a USB adapter for most retro console pads....and the pads to go with them. ;)

As others have said, go with the Xbox pad for newer games and PS2 for emulator/dpad heavy games. You can pick up Xbox pads with a USB converter for about £15 or just the converter itself if you already have the pad for about £5 iirc.
