Are PS3 controllers quite durable? I gave my PS3 with 2 controllers to my dad and my sister for 6 months and I just got it back and both the R1 and R2 buttons don't work on both controllers.

Obviously now I'm expected to buy replacements but this seems a bit fishy to me and I'm quite put off as I have never broken a console controller before.

Does anyone here had any problems with sony official ps3 controller?

A friend stepped on one of my controllers once and the L1 button stopped working. I opened up the controller to find the button had been slightly dislodged so managed to get it working again.

They're very durable, i find it a little fishy tbh.

If they are used as controllers, then there should be no problem...

If you drive a car over them for example, shoot them with a rocket launcher or go deep sea diving with them, then no, not very durable.

You should lynch your dad and sister!

I had two original xbox controllers stop working the same day? It was very freakish.. Had to buy two new ones and take the old ones back one at a time so that i was not at a loss. :D

As stated above. Take them apart and put them back together. You can find youtube instructions. They are easy to fix, probably something loose.

If they still dont work then put them on the bay as faulty. You will still get about £10 - £15 for them faulty as their problems are normally easily fixed by taking them apart.

I have done this with two controllers and they still work fine now. I am taking a look at my brother inlaws one tomorrow which I expect to be an easy fix too. If he is impatient he might even buy another one and say I can keep the "faulty" one ;)

I have dropped mine countless times and thrown it out of frustration a few times I am surprised it still works.

Thanks for the comments everyone and the controllers really feel very good quality and I have owned a PS1, PS2 and PS3 and have never broken any sony controller before.

I just assume either my dad nerd raged while playing his racing games or my 9 year old sister just went too trigger happy on the R1 button.

Solution: they will pay for it.

I would at least take it apart first. You will be surprised at how easy they are to fix. If you cant be bothered then pop it in the post to me ;)

I took my sixaxis apart to see how swappable the battery was, i never managed to get the analogue trigger to sit right afterwards, some spring pinged out and from there it went down a slippery slope.. Ended up after spending an hour or two trying to put it back together and failing miserably (and i'm normally pretty good at such things) anyway i ended up selling it as parts on ebay for a fairly decent sum. Wanted a dual shock anyway (so i kept telling myself) :D

But do beware, the insides of these are more complicated than your average controller.

Is it a Sixaxis or a DS3?
If it's a Sixaxis and you don't manage to get it fixed, let me know, I might be interested in giving you a tenner for it or something.
(It'd be for an arcade stick project of mine)

I still have two Sixaxis controller I got at launch and they still work, he only thing that is not ideal is that there is more play in the analog nubs but all the buttons still work and that is after my 7 year old son played Skate 2 for months.

We have 3 and they seem to be holding up better than PS2 controllers, me and my house mate are fairly heavy PES players and often chuck them about. One got Vodka and coke spilt all over it, buttons went very sticky but a quick open up, clean and put back together and it's impossible to tell which one got the Vodka.
