ps3 crash help???

I bought a £20 heat gun from Argos and followed one of the online guides to bring my 60gb launch model back to life a few months ago. One thing I did notice was that the thermal goo on the two main chips was almost non existent and what was there was brick hard so it couldn't have been doing much.

Since then it runs a lot quieter and I've completed Uncharted 2 and 3, the Last of Us and am about 50% into GTA V with no random power downs or anything worrying going on.

I imagine it will pack in again at some point but if you can heat gun it as a stop gap then there may be a significant drop in price on the PS3 once the PS4 is finally here.

Also I wouldn't recommend the hairdryer method because any guides I've seen where that is used have resulted in damage to the case in one way or another.

I thought that if i get a £200 package (gta v+the last of us) and sell the pad ill basically get the ps3 for £100 once everything is sold it can't be that much cheaper?

Fair enough, I had considered doing similar myself. £100 for a new machine sounds excellent.
