So my fat Ps3, just blinked off, and is giving me the bleeps and three flashing red lights, i guess its knackerd then?
Is it worth repairing? or just buying a slim model?
And can you transfer your account over?

well there is a shop down the road that fixes them, but im thinking of the cost ,and if it might happen again, at least with a new one id get a warranty and could take it back to the shop.

Similar thing happened to mine middle of last year. It was nearly 2 years old phoned Sony they wanted £120 ish for a 2nd hand replacement.

So I phoned the shop I bought it from (major high street retailer).

Told them thousands of people had the same issue so the console was not fit for purpose as it should last a number of years not less than 2. They told me to phone the head office which I did and got the console repaired free, it was that easy.

Might be worth a try mate.

Account is not the problem, game saves are....

Easy repair tbh, but it's hit and miss how long it lasts.

Get a slim.

To transfer your saves you need the machine to be working.
When my Phat broke down I tried the YLOD fix but it didn't work so I went out and bought a Slim and was surprised how much quieter it runs, it's great.

I even managed to sell my broken Phat for 80 euro's.

i have had 2 phats and 3 slims so far so im not so sure on reliability has got much better for me :( just unlucky i really do think the slims are more reliable overall though and they make a lot less noise on some of the more demanding games .

did you buy them second hand?

no they were all covered in warranty i did trade my 2nd phat in for a slim and pay the extra , i also took out another 2 years warranty just to be safe as well and that has covered my last 2 slims one with a noisey br drive and the other not loading games .

ah ok, so i deduce that only 2 died and 1 you returned due to noise - still ott but not like 4 died on you ;)

my 1st phat bit the dust which was under warranty so took back to shop. Then the 2nd i fixed with some new thermal paste and a heat gun and traded in so that is 4 in all :D im on my 3rd slim now .
Hope that clears things up so ive had 2 each so far .

just outta curiosity how do u transfer saves to another console or to a pc to back them up before changing HDD?

With sony changing the way usb cards sync with ps3 some memory sticks work some dont my n95 works but my bytestar multi reader does not .
Back up your saves to a memory card that works and remember you have to deactivate your games and video through account manager so you dont use 1 of your 5 activations .
Then reactivate when you have retrived your psn online to your new hard drive ;)
