PS3 Dev fired...

Book deal?? Really??

He's probably quite lucky he only got fired, we all know what Sony are like for suing folk who annoy them these days

The book deal was infact on using one of the major 3D programs more effectively. Can't remember if it was Maya or 3DMax.

And if you read the actual interview that he did with someone, he still has a lot of respect for people at Sony, regardless of him getting fired :)

As someone else pointed out elsewhere, he could well be talking like that in order to lessen the risk of getting his arse sued to kingdom come.

I don't think it's the risk of being sued, it's more than likely he doesn't want to burn his bridges. The last thing you do in the industry is intentionally make enemies, most jobs come from word-of-mouth.

Apparently he's got lots of job offers, which are at a higher level than he was at with Sony. I'm wondering why anyone would hire someone with a history of publicly damaging disloyalty to their employer though.

It's certainly a gamble. Saying that, he never said Playstation 3 or it's developers were bad, just that the Xbox360 was a lot better than Sony had tried to make out.

I thought he said that the games he'd seen being developed for the PS3 weren't really next gen or something like that. Certainly what he said cast the PS3 in a negative light compared to its arch rival the 360. Whether what he said was true or not is irrelevant of course, as his terms of employment forbade him from making such comments.

Thats true. Unfortunately thats the way of the world, how many times do you see footballers do the same. Unfortunately there's a thin-line between freedom of speech and biting the hand that feeds you. He did cross it, but all he really mentioned was what most of us already knew, it was a pre-rendered none free movement tech demo.

The whole tone of his article is very negative towards the PS3 in my opinion, and it seems a tad unfair to compare it to the 360 when the 360 is out and the PS3 is still in development! eg. criticising the current size of the PS3. Well it will obviously be smaller when it is released so how is that a fair criticism.

I think atm were referring to the dev kit, which in all essence a PC, the shell that they've designed (which afaik could be changing soon) still looks awful, looked a bit like a dodgy breadbin when i frstlooked at it, no matter though as I'll still probably buy it...

Was this a dev kit or the George Forman PS3 we've seen bandied around?

Lots of time has passed since that demo and the dev box has gone from a totally jimmy rigged computer and box of parts about the size of a small child, to a much more realistic size. Although its still the size of a normal pc.

Dev box. Maybe it isn't a criticism but it still has a negative tone to my ears. What difference does it make what size the dev box is after all.

I totally agree with dirtydog (becoming common place... who'd have thunk it?), a dev kit is just that, a development kit. It doesn't matter how it looks or how big it is. The Xbox360's was huge, it was then made half the size later on, it's not the size of the final console, which will be around the same size as the Xbox360.
