PS3 Drive FUBAR?

Hi,

I've had my PS3 for just over a month now, it's the 40gb model :rolleyes:

, watched a blueray dvd last night, switched it on this morning, put disc in, tries to spin it up and then just gives up. I get no errors, I don't even get an icon in the game section.

And I can't even get on the PS3's website to arrange some kind of support rma :mad:

Anyone got any ideas or is my drive a gonna? Anyone know their support number?

Hi,

Yup, tried different games and DVD's. It starts to spin up then stops, dead/dying motor?

Sony have a lot of issues with their drives.

Yeah I just googled it and it doesn't look good!

BUT!

After picking it up, shaking it and throwing a few abusive words at it, it seems to be reading them again, how strange!

If it ever does it again send it straight to Sony for a replacement. It could have just been dust on the lens.

i had a jap PS2 about 4 months before they were out in the UK and sometimes the disc try would just open with the disc spinning and spin it across the room.

pmsl , give sony a ring and et them to replace it . Numbers on back of any game manual

Just an update (late I know) .

Got in contact with Sony and they picked my old one up from work and gave me what looks like a brand new one within 3 days. Service doesn't get much better then that around here!

Oh, and the drive works on this one!

Reminds me of my old Amiga 500. There was a problem with one of chips popping out slightly and I used to be able to fix it by dropping it about 3' onto my bed.
