PS3 + External HD

Also, iirc, FAT only allows a maximum partition size of 32 gigs, so you may need to have several partitions on this external drive.

Scort.

Dunno if that is the case with FAT, but it doesn't matter as it's FAT32 you can use with the PS3 which is fine all the way up to 8TB (yes, terabytes :D)

Wrong :) I currently have an external USB HDD that is 500Gb, 1 partition FAT32.

The only actual limitation that needs to be considered when using FAT32 is the 4Gb maximum size per file.

+1 I have a 320GB external drive formatted to fat32 in a single partition :)

Windows XP can only make a maximum FAT32 partition of 32GB, other formatting programs can make larger ones, my 160GB external drive has one FAT32 partition.

I just wish that there would be a way to make some folders on the PS3, when you have a lot of MP3's it can be a bit confusing when all the files are organised neatly on the external drive :(

Just remember that you can't create playlists for music stored on an external HDD and I'm not aware of any games that can utilise them either... a bit annoying but not a show stopper... I have one :D

have you considered a NAS attached to your router (if you have one), then you could access and update the media from your PC as well. It could also double of as a backup solution.

Just a thought, I know its not really what the doctor ordered.
