PS3 FEAR

At the end of the day the games WILL improve dramatically in the next few months, there is no doubting that

I think the general consensus for that statement, in regards to the ps3, is that a lot of people disagree with you. Have you seen the release list for Q2, how many ps3 exclusives are on that? You'l be waiting till autumn before you see any decent first party games IMO.

Also saying the 360 wasnt much better at launch is not relevant. As I said I'm a gamer, why should I buy tha more expensive system which has a serious lack of good games when there is a cheaper option available with far more games (the 360).

PS3
7.0 Presentation
The menus are stylized and the story is interesting, but I could have done without the lengthy load times.
5.5 Graphics
They're not bad, but they're simple. Is this what the next generation is supposed to look like?
9.0 Sound
I haven't been in a slow-motion particle weapon fight yet in real life, but when I am, I hope it sounds this cool.
8.5 Gameplay
It's just fun to play. Leaping over ledges, raining bullets on your enemies and watching them rag doll dance in SloMo is beyond cool.
8.0 Lasting Appeal
If you fall in love with the gameplay, Instant Action mode, online play and leaderboards are going to have you ghostbustin' for a while.
8.1
Impressive OVERALL

Xbox360
8.6 Presentation
A great port from the PC to 360. The lack of true controller customization options and certain multiplayer modes are questionable omissions.
9.1 Graphics
Outside of repetitive environments, F.E.A.R looks phenomenal.
9.3 Sound
The creepy sound effects add volumes to the atmosphere.
9.0 Gameplay
Excellent AI provides powerful combat sequences. Oh, and the game is very scary.
8.2 Lasting Appeal
Having played the game several times already, it still was fun and Instant Action is great. The lack of online post-game lobbies may cause some to give up playing multiplayer.
9.1
Outstanding OVERALL

can we make a comparison about graphical power?

I wonder whether the Rainbow6Vegas port to the PS3 will be under par too?

Some of those scores seem a little inconsistent.

8.5 for gameplay on the PS3, 9.0 for gameplay on the 360.

It's the same game is it not?

Not really, it is supposed to be a spooky game with an eerie atmosphere. Its hard to create that when the visuals are so lacklustre, hence taking that aspect of the game away from the experience it should be.

People judge games on what else is out there. FEAR came out a long time ago for the 360 and the bar has been raised. I'm sure if it was re-reviewed it would probably get lower scores now.

There is also a lot more bugs in the PS3 version which will hurt gameplay.

The reason why the PS3 version got a lower graphical score compared to 360 is what I said earlier and I reiterate: no 1080i and low resolution textures. Blame that on an awkward design toolset for the PS3 (it definitely has the hardware)

cant see how that would effect it, afterall there is no rumble on the PC version

And yes, no rumble hurts the experience. Of course the PC had no rumble, it's not exactly the most appropriate input device(s) to implement feedback in, is it

That's still not a change to the actual mechanics of the gameplay.

Which is pretty much my point, a direct score comparison isn't really fair.

It's worth noting that the PS3 got extra content (the Armacham Security guards mission). Still didn't sway opinion though. Apparently the port was that bad.

What's the point of saying the graphics look considerably worse on the PS3 than the 360,the PS3 is known to have a lower-spec graphics card (ok so maybe they expected more) but perhaps it (the porting process) was just that bad :o

Also, i really don't think this game will matter in the long run.. afterall, it feels like an age since it came out for the PC and a lot of the hype has gone now anyway. It would be different if this was GTA or something.

My opinion though.

I think it's down to whether or not Rockstar can be bothered to implement 1080i on the PS3 version - its scaler (and to some extent, RSX performance) sucks compared to the 360's, and that's why games on both consoles only see a 1080i/p mode on the 360 version. Even PS3 'special' games don't do 1080i, look at R:FoM and Motorstorm.

Let's not forget that the PS3 has to split its memory in two 256mb segments (system and frame buffer), something that could hurt it in the long run. The XMB takes up 64mb(!) of the system memory already, leaving developers with a scant 192mb. Not sure if they fixed that, but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't.
