PS3 game storage

Hi guys, so I finally decided to get a 120gb PS3 from a friend as I've built up quite a collection of games for it from having ps plus for my vita. The problem is that this will all take a significant amount of space at roughly 8-12GB a game. I was wondering if I can store PS3 game externally like on my laptop or external drive. I know you can't play from an external drive but I am only wishing to store it in the same way you can do with the PSP and Vita.

Redownloading games as I need them doesn't sound appealing either as we have download limits at university

I can't answer the external storage set up, but why not put a much bigger hard drive into your PS3? Drives aren't that expensive and it's a neater setup than external drives.

Nope, your only option would be to upgrade the HDD ahead of time.
