Can anyone sghed light on the options for alternative headsets for the PS3. The Sony model is to me horrible. I would prefer to play with stereo phones on and obviously have a mic. I wanted the Logitech Clearchat Wireless headset but discovered they are not bluetooth.

Many Thanks

Nothing techinically. I do not like gaming with one ear covered and recieving chat and the other open to hear a mono version of the game. What I would reaaly like, as with the PC, is stereo through good headphones with a good mic all wirelessly.

I dont think there are any console headsets that exist as you require them to (though I think someone who plays Res2 on here might prove me wrong). The majority of console headsets are just for voice comms where all game sounds tend to go over a different channel - mixing that and voice may not work and youd probably need a headset that allowed you to change the volume of the mix so you can hear comms clearly over the game sounds...

Whenever Ive played a game where I havent got a headset on so its all through the TV its very hard to pick out the comms from the game sounds...

I doubt any USB headset will work as the PS3 will pick it up as a normal headset (effectively is a seperate USB sound 'card') and wont give you the option to mix in the game sounds. The only way it might work is if you had an usb headset that also had an optical cable to channel the game sounds into it aswell as the comms...

Dont take my word for it though as I havent really looked into it myself other than I knew it was different to what Im used to with PC gaming. Just got what everyone else had...

Im sure there are console headsets that do what Ive said but probably wont be cheap or of very good quality...

Are you after a purely voice headset that covers both ears, or one that mixes sound for the game in?

Either way, I may have a solution provided it doesn't have to be a wireless solution, but will need to check at home if it works first. :)

The Playstation Eye supports this ok. Comms come through the speakers and you can use the mic on it for communicating. Its an open mic though connected by a USB lead so youll need to be fairly close to your PS3. Quality isnt too bad either but again youll need it quite close to pick you clearly as its open.

i am also in need for a headset. does anyone own the Gioteck EX-01 Bluetooth Headset? and would you recommend that over the official sony headset? both priced cheaply so not to fussed.

i was also looking at the logitech codless vantage headset, which was out of my price range :(

Hehe you damn right! :P

The following work exactly the same as the Turtle Beach PX1's (which are thought to be the only mic and headset solution for PS3), except they look a hell of a lot cooler, and are around the same price, widely available even in stores.

Can I introduce the SteelSeries Siberia USB Headset? can be had around £60 at usual computerstores or cheaper online.

Basically the PX1 is a usb soundcard to give a line in to the mic and you connect your headphones to your tv or phonocables from PS3 through a 3.5mm.

The SteelSeries Siberia USB, made by those guys who make Icemats (make sure it says USB on the box!) is exactly the same solution. USB soundcard for line in and headphones, which sound fantastic and look really good too (if you care about that stuff). Its seems pretty darn well built too.

THE advantage of the SteelSeries is that the Mic is a clip type, and is mega sensitive, so you can clip it anywhere on you or the headphone cable, I dont like people hearing me eat lol! The mic is on a totally seperate wire which clips all the way along the headphone cable or you can just seperate it if you like like I have done and it has a little velcro attatchment thing so its clipped onto my desk permanently.

Like the PX1's you can buy the xbox 360 thingamajig to make the mic work with the 360.

I sound like i'm trying to sell them myself but I just think they're awesome, and work simply with my xbox ps3 and pc :D :D

I think ps3udo means me, i have a set of tritton AX pros, but at £157 with p&p it is a wee bit expensive, my orignals 1s were bust though as 1 of the pins in the headphones was missing so after a couple of weeks getting on to Tritton then the UK company, they sent a replacement set, got them today and i havent sent the old 1s back yet.

Havent used them for the ps3 yet, too see if the bass adds more, but i notice the difference in pc gaming now. Ohh incase i forgot they are 5.1 surround sound headphones with a mic that works with both the ps3 and xbox 360, also has an independant control for voice comms so you can lower it or increase it depending on whos talking.

Ok, what I have done now is bought a pair of wireless headphones and using a small DAC have them connected to the optical o/p on PS3. Found that the Official PS3 headset can be used in it's docking stand as a group mic and thus there is no need to wear it. When docked the game and comms sound comes through the headphones. Brilliant. Can't talk if I take a leak but hey ho.

Thanks all.

Oh orderoftheflame, I would still be interested to hear your solution.

Cheers
It's a thing called a "USB Music Fairy". It's not as gay as it sounds. USB one end, mic and headphone output on the other.

It'll let you plug any standard mic, and any standard headset into the PS3 for voice chat.

Dunno how much it applies to your situation though. I got one to go with my A40 system to allow it to work with the PS3.
