PS3 help please

Hi guys, a mate of mine has a ps3 the refuses to read disks and has asked me to swap the drive over with another from the same (60gb) generation a simple job right? well no it seems as i have done just that and it still won't load anything dvd, game or blu-ray all won't load, the replacement drive was working fine until the console died (yellow/ red flashing light) so i would have thought it would have worked fine but no :( so any help would be awesome

Does the drive see the disk when you insert it (blue light comes on)?

If it does then it sounds like both lasers are buggered :(, if it doesn't it will be the drive reader (small chip at the front of the drive with a thin cable attached that plugs into the side of the drive).

If it's the reader chip they are no more than £10 of ebay.
 
you have to match the drive with the console, so the baord that is on the front of the bluray drive has to be swapped over. so the new drive has the board of the old ps3 and then put in the old ps3;)
 
Dam yeah sorry Ive done it now, I though I posted a reply eariler doh :) anyway cheers for the replys guys:D I think I might try the ylod fix on the other one and maybe if it works look into a new drive would be cheaper than a new one and can play ps2 games happy days :)
