It's true although theres a very easy fix. You can download a US game save, transfer it to the console and then load it in game and viola all the gory goodness is unlocked and back on your screenSmit said:Games, technically yes they are region free but certain parts are censored.
For example the news going around is that Resistance FoM is quite a bit more censored on a Japanese PS3 than it is on a US PS3

As for regions, you need to see what film formats have what regions. I beleive that US and Japan now share the same region code for BD but are not the same for DVD so it depends where you got your console from as to what it will play.

ic1male said:So do you mean that the console itself is doing the censoring or just that the Jap game itself is censored compared to the US game? i.e. if you had a Jap PS3 but bought a US copy of Resistance, all would be fine again.
Certain Playstation 3 games will and do have a "feature" built in that will turn certain elements on or off depending on the region of your system.

Anyone one else think this is a completely ridiculous idea? Remember the controversy about Hot Coffee in GTA. It didn't matter that the content was disabled, the very fact that it was there on the disc meant the game had to be reclassified in the US. So surely having the console censor the content is not going to make any difference legally speaking. For example if the next GTA had a sex scene that a US console censors, it would still have to be rated adults only because of the fact that the content is there.mmj_uk said:Yes, if you play a US game in an Asian console certain aspects may be censored, whilst the same disc in a US console isn't.
I expect European consoles will be censored too so I think I might import a US one.

What makes you think it'll have less censorship in the US? It's likely that some things will be censored here, but not in the US and some other things will be censored in the US but not here.Apopcalyptic said:I'm seriously looking at US machine if this censorship stuff is fact

But sex will be censored in the US. Not that it comes up in many games, but you do get it every now and then (eg. Fahrenheit).Apopcalyptic said:I suppose I'm just making an assumption based on the liberal attitudes towards violence and such in the US.
It's a valid point though![]()
