PS3 - Jack of all trades, master of none?

It may have been said already, And this is a reply to the original poster really.

I get bored of reading threads when they turn into every other thread.

But my reply is to Needles, And it's a simple one.

Next Generation Consoles are not just gaming machines it has been said by both Microsoft and Sony since the beginning, They are complete entertainment packages.

Complete entertainment packages yes but the primary reason is for games.
Trying to force a new technology onto people isnt always successfull.

Ask anyone here if Sony sold a PS3 with DVD drive allowing for the fact all games would still be on DVD and this sold for £299 yet you could buy an upgraded card reader Blu Ray version for the launch price what would sell best?

Its a major mistake to of gone with Blu Ray, particulary as the format isnt established. Yes yes yes the PS2 had a DVD drive and it to was expensive in the beginning. We keep hearing this but DVD was actually established and had a good catalouge of titles availabe.

Most importantly it didnt have a rival format which unfortunately Blu Ray has.
People that use the PS2 and DVD excuse keep forgetting this.

Sorry I was actually talking about Microsoft as a company compaired to Sony - not just the consoles.
Erm... that has nothing to do with the consoles and a hell of a lot to do with fanboyism. I'm not that pathetic so I just go for the console that offers the most for the money and has the best games.

Couldn't agree more, i don't really care who makes a console, if it has games that interest me and are fun, then i'll buy it, end of.

Which is why, despite me being miffed at Sonys business tactics and decisions, I will buy a PS3 when the prices come down. I know great games will come out for it and that's all that really matters.

So you don't care about the company who make your console, just about the console. As I said before, if any other company had made the Xbox 360 I would more than likely own one - I like the console, but I just don't like Microsoft. It's not like I'm one of these people who has a list of moral objections to loads of companies as most of the time I really couldn't give a monkeys, but MS for some reason instill a sense of distrust and loathing which I feel about no other brand!

So you hate the company responsible for giving us all the most compatible PC experience around? Without windows PC use would be almost in the dark ages in comparison, MS are the reason we are all gaming happily on our PC's and enjoying such varied use out of them. Yes, MS have got many things wrong but you can't deny the revolution they have caused, to all of our beneft.

The XBOX 360 is a fantastic console that thanks to MS will make the transition between PC and console gaming even easier, it uses code that nearly all developers find it easy to work with and with MS's vast resources you can be assured t won't dissappear overnight and that developers will keep working hard to produce greeat games on it. You get a lot for your money with that machine.

And no i'm not an MS fan, I just appreciate what they've done for techies.

Why don't you apply for a job at Sony or Microsoft, you seem to know the industry better than they do?

Frankly i think my last reply makes a lot of sense , was DVD established on PS2 arrival and is Blu Ray as established as DVD was?

Id say i know the industry better than you do and i know not to pick sides like some 9 year old kid in the playground. As others have said when Sony finally get their act together, drop the price and Blu Ray has a strong enough catalouge then yeah i wil get the system, i wont defend them for the current state their in nor believe that some magical force is going to make the system outsell the X360 within europe and USA anytime soon.

If you have a problem with my opnion, fine disagree with it but dont take it too personal however you could at least try expressing your opnion with credible answers rather than be sarcastic or smarmy about it.

Your anti Microsoft but you dont see this like some childish antics?

The name just leaves a bad taste in my mouth - I love PC games but then I don't really have a choice but to use Windows as there are next to no titles out on either Mac or Linux.

I just dont get the Microsoft hatered. Im pretty sure if it wasnt for MS we wouldnt be where we are now in terms of computers and programs etc.

If you want to hate a company pick someone really worthy like Monsanto or Nestle!

Ok now that youve showed your devoted love and hate, is your opnion not actually one thats biased, so why would anyone take such notice?
At least i try to base my opnion on factual information or current/past statistics.

Please and i mean this with sincerity...
Explain to us all what is so bad about the X360 and why will it not maintain its current sales or popularity?

Also bear in mind that the 2007 catalouge is the best in years for releases and that the X360 will more than likely see a price reduction this year.

Honestly im curious to see if you can even answer this with good argumentive reasons.

So in other words you have a completely irrational and baseless dislike for them, to the point where you will avoid obvious quality technology just because they had a hand in developing it. Hey I don't mind that you do, just at least admit it. :)

I don't need to answer your questions as I have never stated that the 360 will not succeed. You're problem is that you ask for people to give you reasons for something and then don't listen to the answers, so whats the point in going over it all again!

In my eyes a 'Fanboy' is someone who beleives they have the better system no matter what anyone says and they will not listen to anyone who says anything otherwise. If you look back through my threads you will see that I have given you my valid thoughts and the reasons behind them but you just come back saying that I'm wrong. I have even said that MS will make up serious ground in the console market and could even end up with an equal market share as Sony, but you dismiss this and say that the 360 will be all conquering - you are the fanboy, admit it.

Anyway, nuff said. One of my new years resolutions is not to be drawn into petty console wars threads on forums, so I will leave it to you guys.

Play nice kiddies ;)

a lot of people just like to hate the companies that are on top. Seems to be the "cool" thing to do. Rather silly, And just a little bit immature. If there is basis to hate that company then fine. But hating just because, is kinda wierd. But also the choice of the person choosing to do so.

I dont think you can argue a case very well at all your answers typically arnt very informative but usually relate to sarcasim. Yet again you avoid direct questioning. I dont recall giving the impression to people that i think the X360 is going to be all conquering.

Things could change but currently I do beieve that they have the best lineup of titles the best in house franchises, the best online service and the best price point, really they are delivering the goods . However am i really making a biased account or is it one that is in fact currently the case and would be a widespread opnion?

All i have asked is you tell people here why X360 will not maintain its lead, but you cant, you just wont admit that for the PS3 to currently start being the number one selling system it has to appeal to a larger amount of gamers, not just the fan boys or the tech savvy looking for Blu Ray. As exlained many times the Sony exclusives are going and we still await titles system selling titles like GT and MGS as mentined several times too are nowhere to be seen.

I hope you spend time to relate to how poorly blinded you are by not even praising what Microsoft are achieveing. You wont even give them due credit as you seem to be one way biased to Sony. Thats why you find such debates hard to swallow.

You did mention that brand awareness will ensure PS3 major success. At this stage can i put forward that one of the reasons the PS2 was so successfull was because of how AWARE the general public became regards Piracy how big the Piracy became on the platform. It didnt reach 110 million just because of its games or brand reputation based on quality titles.

Still i think we may be waiting a while before you see anyone at a local market modifiying a PS3 and shifting dodgy Blu Ray discs.
