hi there,

was thinking about getting a joystick for the ps3.

After some brief research, the best one seems to be the madcatz one as it seems to suffer from no known issues and use arcade quality parts.

Anyone know the difference between the 'Tournament' version to that of the 'Tournament Round 2' version?

I would link but they're all seem to be competitor links.

thanks!

I've got the round 2 and had a hands on with an original (round 1 i guess it's called?). The differences are minimal tbh, other than new artwork and colour scheme on the round 2 (which i prefer) i couldn't tell you anything else i've noticed. The important thing is they both use Sanwa parts, which is what makes them so good.

Great stick, other than being very bulky i have no complaints.

Avoid the 'Tournament Edition S' though, even though it was priced HIGHER when i bought my stick, it's actually inferior to the Tournament Edition Rounds 1 + 2. The Madcatz SE stick is also to be avoided unless you plan to upgrade the parts yourself.

My friend has the 1, I've got the 2.

2 is SLIGHTLY better because when you lock it, it locks the Start and Select buttons too...

Other than that, there's no real difference as Streeteh has said.

Any idea how much i should expect to pay for one brand new?

Also, for owners that have had one for over the warranty period and should a button break (for example), do you just replace/repair the part yourself? :)

thanks.

I couldn't tell you how much they cost now. I got mine for £70, but the prices fluctuate wildly.

If a button breaks (which i very much doubt would happen any time soon, sanwa parts are designed for arcades etc so are very durable) i would have no reservation about opening up and replacing the button myself. It's really, really simple. I completely replaced the buttons and joystick on my SE stick and it took around 20 mins.

You could break down the stick to each and every component, and replace the faulty item. Have a look on lizardlick.com to get an idea of what I mean. All buttons are replaceable too. I have a TE, and a Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 and two Hori FS3's all sanwa upgraded. They are all as good as each other, perhaps. I have some setup for desk play (too heavy for lap play) and some setup for lap play, (too light for desk play) If you buy the madcatz SE or FS3, you will need to replace the components to Sanwa. Otherwise they are a little naff. The SE is drop in, the FS's you need to be handy with a soldering iron and a dremel.

Since MvsC3 just came out, they're probably going to be quite expensive.

I'm another person who got their Tournament Edition stick for £70. Well worth the purchase. I don't think I could stomach paying twice that though.

I got my PS3 TE for £55 new (Gamestation, in-store ) and Kreeeee kindly modded it to work on 360, bargain!

I have the original round 1 TE, as said no real differences between them aside from cosmetics, some don't like the SSFIV TE's because of the sharper edges on the case.
