"Ps3 Launch will not fail"

Reading that article it says that the blue diode thing has to do 6 things but arent PS1 discs cd's and PS2 discs are Dvd's and Ps3 discs are Blu-ray. So it only really has to read 3 ? He basically just doubled them all ? I thought the only diff was the copy protection?

Yup, it's pretty much bull.
There have been diodes available for the past 5 years that read both CD's and DVD's (to start with they needed two in the very early days), and the only difference between the lasers used in the PS1 and 2 and normal CD/DVD drives was that Sony tweaked the sensativity so that they wouldn't work well with burned media (I think the other part of the change from the standard spec was how the OS read the disk, which was a software change).
