PS3 Lie ?

ah - I think we have crosswires then. My original post was aimed at people not buying a 360 because they are holding out for a PS3.

Well a lot of people seem to think that anyone sticking up for the PS3 or trying to be balanced, must automatically be a 'Sony fanboy' who is waiting for a PS3 ;) That isn't me.

Seeing as I only just bought my first Xbox in December 2005, it is still new to me and I'd need an incredibly good reason to ditch it just yet. Ironically, if the 360 was fully backwards compatible then I would quite possibly go for it. The BC thing must be hurting MS's sales to some extent, possibly a large one.

I cant pass judgement at this stage, its out in november so things are going to look like that screen anyway, developers are getting there dev kits in may or around then.

Im pretty sure the ps3 will be better than the 360, its inevitable, they have had more time spent on it. If they can get that processor in it to work with all 9 threads it will be very fast!

Aimed to Dirty, what would you like to see new in a driving game? Theres not really more you can add in my eyes? Im not having a dig...i just cant see any improvements that can be implemented in driving games anymore...

Im being open minded towards the PS3 and hope it is better than the 360!!!

Is this PS3 bashing thread number 562 or 563, I've lost count already.

I've just worked out what you are!; a Sony/Playstation fanboy. That comment added to your constant bashing of the x360... even my poor maths skills can work that one out! ;)

If this thread was re: x360 you'd be having a field day right now. As you've done in the past.

So what kind of games DO you like? ;)

For me, there has been 3 killer apps.

PGR3 - Best racing game I have ever played (although I am not a big racer fan)
GRAW - Best shooter I have ever played.
Oblivion - Best RPG I heve ever played (and i've hardly scratched the surface)

So far the 360 has provided me with what is possibly my 2 favourite games ever so far in GRAW and Oblivion. I think it has been an amazing first few months and if this is an indication of what's to come them....BRING IT ON!!! (in a Joe Swansen stylee).

And if the PS3 is able to match the 360's line-up in quality then I will probably end up buying that too.

Gameplay wise you're probably right. I guess I'd be happy for the existing games I like to be updated with better graphics and more tracks, eg. different cities, etc. For example, I would be happy to buy Burnout 5 if it just had another half dozen distinct different cities (or areas), even if the basic game was identical to Burnout 4.

I think driving games still have a ways to go to give full realism and immersion. Until there's a game which looks like real life then there's room for improvement.

I hoped this post was sarcastic but I fear it isn't. Please read my subsequent posts in the thread.

Well from a personal point of view there are a lot of things that could have been done to PGR3 to make it a lot better.

(I'd liked to have seen some features from the MSR series and possible the first 2 PGRs) Little things like weather effects, Radio stations and also the real time lighting where it would work out what time it was in which city around the world and adjust whether it was night time, day time etc.

None of those are 'new' things to even the series but still would have made it a better game IMO

Theres some good points there!

I have to admit though PGR2 is probably better length wise, many more tracks and many more cars...

Also why are people digging at him because he has valid points about why he doesnt like a certain game, if he doesnt enjoy it thats his choice and not anyone elses and no one should tell him otherwise. end of! (argh saskia off BB)

Thats very funny and just another reason NEVER to belive the sony HYPE

I cant wait till the PS3 is realeased and people finally see that they could have enjoyed games and graphics the same or better for over a year with the 360 lol :p

i still stand by my notion of last generation of consoles, most games were ps2 ports onto all other systems, with the xbox getting some minor touchups, big companies like EA will just port

its unlikely that many games will be single format, maybe the Metal gear solids and the Halos, but nothing much else, hence whichever is better, and they will both be good, 360 just nipping it so far, but i have yet to play on the ps3.

I'll probably buy a PS3 at release, along with a revolution as well. I have a 360 just now, along with this/last gen, or however they're being labelled these days, consoles.

Sony need to stop the hype now, it's all becoming far too similar to the "Emotion Engine" nonsense leading upto the PS2 launch.

How nice of you.

You must have some insider knowledge to know what the games will look like in 8 months, perhaps you'd like to share your time traveling experiences with us further?

I can't see the screenie here at work it is filtered but I am with others when saying I will wait until its launched to pass judgement.

I have my 360 now and I love the game(s) I have played on it. (this is personal preference and I can see where DD is coming from).

I do however have one quibble. PGR3 for me was a huge let down. I had MSR on the DC and loved every minute. There were for a start a lot more tracks and a much greater variety of cars. (Never played the other PGR's so I can't comment on them). Did anyone else find this?

Yes it looks good but its missing something. . .

It called the world wide web every bit of media coming from sony and other sources about the PS3 have yet to prove it can do any more then what the 360 has been doing for months now and 8 months ant long

I have read reports of people that have used the PS3 dev kits and played the eairly games and they all say the same thing dont expect a jump from the 360 in fact i made a thread about it HERE

Maybe you shold go read the facts before you get your next pay check from sony :D

Dirtydog is probably the most sensible one out of the lot of us, lol, he has brought the best console power wise from the last gen of consoles at a nice cheap price, has all the games he could possibly want again at a nice cheap price and still has a few titles to look forward to seeing on the xbox. I'm abit like him, i like my driving games above all else, hell out of the six titles i have 4 are driving and two have been out on xbox (burnout, NFSMW), 1 is just a minor update (pgr3) and 1 exclusive at this time (rr6), i'm sure if he had the cash he'd rather buy a 360 but to me he's not a earlier adopter of new consoles because a) they are expensive, b), not that many titles out and are dearer, d) titles that are out a good few are ports from older systmes (at present). I love my 360 but not sure it its a must have next gen console yet as at present they is still life in the old ones at a far cheaper price and the only reason i got the 360 is because i still have a xbox to play these cheaper games (didn't have to sell it to fund 360) and becasue i happened to have the spare cash, otherwise i probably still be sitting on the fence wondering what to get or wait for.

We're not supposed to be shown anything on the format, and software we have played is nowhere near final. Disappointingly we can't mention any games or be specific about any game scenarios whatsoever. But we can tell you everything else about our first, intimate experience of getting our hands on PS3

There is a lot of stuff on the Internet indeed...100% of it being:

  • Sony hype
  • Prerendered videos
  • Early development screens
  • Rumours
  • Raw hardware specs
  • Media hype
  • Opinion

None of it is final code, which is ultimately what the PS3 will be judged on; hell, we don't even know what the controller will look like yet!

You can't possibly say the PS3 will definitely be the same/worse/better than the 360 from this.

I also find it funny how as soon as anyone tries to defend the PS3 against constant bashing or who hasn't bought an XBOX360 gets labelled a fanboy or must obviously be being paid by Sony

For the record I don't expect the PS3 graphics to look like the prerenders, especially after the whole Emotion Engine stuff - it took them 5 years to get anywhere close.

Nothing good or bad to comment on here - its a still photo so impossible to tell from one developer with about 8 months to go if not more before release.

Remember also that both the 360's and PS3 have a shelf life of 4 years or more, in that time both types of software will grow beyond recognition of inital release with limited - if any at all - hardware improvements (not including drives in this as they wont actually improve what we see or hear as such)

As long as it isnt a one sided battle for this generation we all win!!!!
