I have the PS3 Slim 120GB.

From starting it up its making a loud churning noise, sounds like the fan? Doing my head in now! It has been doing it for a while. Started to just do it on start up, but now its nearly all the time it is on, especially when games are loading.

Also playing COD:BO's other day and it was artifacting on the start of maps. Everything was blue, black and yellow and messed up. Think it as only done this on first time of being on the certain maps. Is this normal?

Give the old girl good dust spritz. Could do the old fan test, hold down eject and unplug/plug back in the power cord.

Ah, nice one! That sorted it out.

Cheers

Edit: Can anyone comment on the artifacting?

Thanks

I had artifacting on Fallout 3 but no other gameso n my old fat PS3. If it starts happening on other games then sadly you might have an inc YLOD. That's just worst case scenario though.

Say, it only did it on maps i have been on for first time. Guess it was to do with loading the map fully up for first time?

I've seen that texture issue on my mate's PS3 when it was loading up BO. I'm pretty sure it's to do with the way it stream textures on map start and is nothing to worry about.

As this thread is about PS3 noise I figure it's a good opportunity to post this here.

How loud is the slim line ps3 in comparison to the old original monster sized ps3?

I got the monster size one and it creates a considerable amount of noise. It's definitely louder than my PC without a doubt. Reckon I should give this fan test thing a bash as well?

My slim 320gb is a lot quieter than my old 40gb fat PS3. My old PS3 was pretty quiet as well, but this is pretty much silent. But then again it is winter, might be a different story in the summer.

It does make a fair bit of noise when loading from the Bluray when playing games. As did my old PS3.

My Slim 320 is about as loud as my 60GB fat. That said, when it's running cool it's a lot quiter but both are terrible when my room is hot.
