PS3 Media Server Streaming MKV files

I recently downloaded the latest version of PS3 Media Server in the attempt to stream MKV files. I'm on a Wireless network and transcoding doesn't seem possible, videos stutter on all MKV files. The encoding is done on a dual core E8500 3.16GHz, 4GB. This is down to the network connection?
 
Yes it is. I have a wired connection and my machine is all good with it. If it is possible to get it wired at all, it should stop the stutter!
 
Are you trying to stream 1080p or 720p files?

I could stream lower quality 720p files over wireless without stuttering. I've moved to wired now though.
 
I'm able to stream 720 or 1080 over my wifi, which isn't particularly great.

(altho my PC is wireless, and the PS3 is hard wired. I'm not convinced the PS3 wifi is all that fab).
 
Just copy them over and watch directly from the PS3. If PS3 Media Server doesn't convert them properly though, just to what gecko said and use mkv2vob to convert beforehand.

Saves some electric as well not having your PC sat there streaming for the duration ;)
 
don't think it does.

But i do this just fine with 1080p MKVs over a wired connection.

Think the problem here is the wireless network, not the PS3 or PS3 Media Server
 
ps3 wireless networking is rubbish, i realised that after both streaming hd stuff is a no go and downloading some demo's failed over a wireless connection but worked perfect over wired.
 
As far as .mkv support, my PS3 has been able to stream them without issue, except for the larger 1080p files.

However, this problem isn't specific to .mkv files. While some have worked smoothly, other mp4's, avi's, and mkv's seem to stutter when they are 1080p and include 6 channel audio.

I'm using a wired connection and have been streaming with great success for some time now. Only recently have I been trying 1080p files to get the full experience from my new tv.

I've been looking through some other forums, and it looks as though the Playstation's buffer is a bigger part of the problem than actual bandwidth.

I haven't seen any good fixes other than to copy the file over or downgrade the stream. I'll resort to both of these when I can, but I find it odd that I have this issue over a wired connection that appears to be streaming at 100Mb/s
 
In the olden days I've always managed to to transcode 1080p MKV's to my PS3 when using a simple 100mb 'wired' connection & PS3 Media Server. This day and age I'm now on a gigabit lan. So with that in mind, I'd think the 300mb WLAN's should be able to manage it? I dunno, as I've gigabit lan'd my entire house. But providing you have a good signal, and going on that 100mb was enough, then maybe all you need to do is switch out your router to a newer faster model.
 
You can change the transcode settings in PS3 media server so that you can watch with no stutter if your wireless bandwidth is getting hogged and the movie is jerking.
I changed mine to a slightly lower setting and whilst the clips are reduced in quality slightly, it doesn't appear to degrade the viewing experience.

Obviously wired is the way to go, or use a couple of homeplugs.
 
Does converting to VOB lose any quality? Say I download a video clip in 1080p, and the file size is around 12GB, I take it it's a case of converting it using the program above then either streaming it to my PS3 via PS3 Media Server or just copy it and play?
