I spent a few hours of yesterday and today trying to get external subtitles to stream with video files using TVersity. To no avail

Finally, on the 11th hour I found this:

It's a quick guide to using PS3 Media Server, a java based media sharing software. You can use stock settings and it'll do great, and you can also tweak a few values if you're getting stuttering. And best of all for me, is that I can finally see the subtitles!

can it be run as a service with no one logged in to the PC?

Well there's a button that says "Install as service" so yes probably

Yea i was actually looking online today for a tutorial on how to play just a VIDEO_TS file over Tversity. Apparently you can't, but can with PS3MediaServer. Quite a few people are now saying its better.

I ditched Tversity in favour of PS3 media server a while ago and havnt looked back, so far its been great.

If only it worked on PowerPC Macs (my server). On the fly FLAC to PCM transcoding looks brilliant.

Used PS3 Media server for a while now. Wouldn't touch Tversity or Twonky now. It's great, works so much faster than the others.

ya moved to ps3 media server after lots of messing around with tversity
ps3 media is install n done job!!

Is there any settings you need to tweak for PS3mediaserver? Seems like there isn't as much as Tversity, like 1080p upscaling of video and images etc.

Also, can you still transfer files over it like in Tversity to the PS3?
