Ok i am mainly a PC gamer and normally i would have got the said game for the PC but because of all the horror stories i keep hearing about the no dedicated servers, hacks e.t.c i am thinking about picking it up for the PS3.

Now one of my pet hates with console gaming is low frame rates and stutter when the screen gets busy with some games. I found GTA4 unplayable yet Killzone 2 and Battlefield 1943 were ok, so i just want to know how does the PS3 version of Modern Warfare 2 fare regarding this?

Runs better on the xbox but as you say the there is a dip in framerate on the PS3 version when there is a lot of smoke and other things going on, on screen.

Both versions suffer framerate drops when a lot of alpha smoke is on-screen. The PS3 version dropped slightly more on average (by a couple of FPS overall) but the average FPS was high 50s anyway and in intense action scenes it hardly ever went under 30FPS so I doubt you would actually notice anyway. You will be fine with the PS3 version, I've played it on 360/PS3/PC and you can't fault any version in regards of performance/looks, though a certain type like to think otherwise.

Depends what your used to really, had it on both ps3 and PC. ps3 verison seemed fine untill I played a lot on PC, you do notice the slowdown slightly then. It's much better than most games though, certainly a lot better than GTA IV, I also found that almost unplayable on ps3 (mind you it's not much better on PC!)

prefer the PS3 version as it's sharper, i have 360 and PS3 versions, my boy plays the 360version as most of his friends have it on the 360

It would appear that bloom is to blame for that "plasticy" look on 360 games looking at that comparison. Thats not a jab from me btw. It's just nice to know what actually causes it. I feel that bloom causes games to step away from realism graphics wise, PS3 graphics lack bloom and that results in the less plastic look.

....Yes i say plastic, I dunno what else I could use :D

It runs much better on the PS3 compared with the 360, get it, it is great.

No it doesn't. The PS3 version's buffer issues means it runs exactly 12 frames per second less than the 360 version, although for the most part they both run at 60. For example, in scenes where the 360 version dips to say, 55FPS, the same scene dips to 43 in the PS3 version. This is a fact and cannot be disputed.

It's covered in detail here.

There's no two ways about this - the Xbox 360 version of the game commands a significant frame-rate advantage over the PS3 build.

The 360 version also sports a number of minor graphical advantages, such as cleaner night vision mode, and lightning bloom.

Not sure of the 360 version, as I've not played it to judge, but the ps3 version is close enough to 60 at all times.

The only thing I would say, is that MP (spec ops in particular) seems to be more dependent on a solid net connect than the previous COD4. Tho I suspect this is the same on 360 too, as it uses middleware for its netcode.

Defo recommend it on ps3.

I played 4 hours on the PS3 version on the weekend (I also have the 360 version), and could not practically tell any difference what so ever, mind you the LCD I played it on didn't have the best response times, I'd wager anything above 40 ms wouldn't have been resolved..

Love the way that Nanoman posts the definitive response (providing he has indeed played all), then all the fanboys from both consoles come bickering into the fray :D

I love owning both consoles, not taking sides on either, as you get to really see how fickle people are when defending their chosen one!
