I'm buying a PS3 for the bar in a Uni Hall of res. Wondering what should I be getting in terms of good multiplayer games etc.

Cheers

Games like Singstar and Guitar Hero 3 would be good purchases for that environment also VF5 and Tekken 5 (from the PSN store). If possible you could import RockBand from the US but its expensive, but with no confirmed UK price or date released yet is the only way to play. Buzz for the PS3 is out in march so that would be a good future purchase.
Some sports games would be good, Fifa 08 is good , not sure about Pro Evo (sure some one on here will be more helpful), perhaps even the WWE Smackdown vs Raw 08 would also work.
Cod4 is fantastic FPS multiplayer game, no story mode MP just death matches etc but would be fun on a big screen, Resistance MP is great and is 4 player split screen and also 2 player story Co-op, it can also be had pretty vheap now.

In Resistance can you play through the story split screen coop or do you have to do it over Playstation Network?

Thanks

i would have thought in a bar environment you want games you can pick up and enjoy for like 5-10 mins...

you'd be better off with a wii and get smash bros, mario kart, wii sports and the like... no?

to really enjoy COD4 and games like that you need at least a good hour...

saying that, i might be talking out of my arse and i'm not even sure if the wii games i mentioned are out yet... but i do know when i was at uni the gamecube was the source of much fun ;)

I'm also buying a Wii, but as I already have one myself I'm more upto date on what's what there.

As for hoards of drunken students, hardly anyone uses the bar for it's intended purpose these days - so thought a few consoles may drag a few more bodies in. If it goes down well I have a plan to get a few more large screens and consoles. We'll see.

Thanks for all the replies :)

i wouldnt even bother sticking a console in the bar, it would be a terrible waste of money, unless your charging for people using it, e.g. like a pool table

Nope no charge - at the moment the bar is empty bar a few soles chucking the odd dart and playing the quiz machine. So trying a few things to get people in to use the communal space. Also the non-drinkers tend to avoid the bar (for obvious reasons), so want to offer more than a place to enjoy a pint. Am I wandering off topic....

is this for the students, competitions and that sort thing?

i would suggest:
fifa/pro evo
virtua tennis 3
tekken 5 Dr
guitar hero 3
and an fps of some sort... cod4 maybe

A wii would be a better choice, cheaper and with a larger choice of local multiplayer games.

I have to agree. I would go for a Wii and just keep Wii Sports on it. For what you want it for it's ideal and it would also get the ladies into the bar, and if the ladies come then the gents will follow ;)

Well I've shorlisted:

PS3 + COD4, FIFA'08, Singstar & Guitar Hero 3 and extra contorllers
Wii + Mario Galaxies, Mario & Sonic at the Olympics, Metroid Prime 3 Resident Evil. I also have a load of Wii software that I'll share.

We have a projector and a large screen TV so hopefully this'll go down well.
