Yes but to just give up because you don't understand it.... not exactly an intelligent thing to do, is it?
It's not always a case of not understanding it, there is a business side to all this, and having one platform demand more 'time' to develop to get the same results as the other platforms, doesn't make financial sense in the short term, it's not about being clever as such, it's more about maximising your development time..
Surely they should be pushing their development teams to learn more about the PS3's architecture and see how far they can push it. This is how technology progresses. The big developers are all too happy to ship out millions of heartless below average games to saturate the market. An example of this being the number of poor titles on the Wii atm with a fair number of gems hidden amongst them.
Sony have been a bit stupid with it though, they have forced a large change in hardware on developers, and expect them to change overnight, something even the first party devs have struggled with. Not only that, but with limited RAM etc (as all consoles do), and a slightly underpowered graphics card, it just makes it a harder task still. Not only that, but their development tools / frameworks have been rather lacking to start with, if you want networking/chat etc, developers have no help with this, and have had to code it all themselves.. Although I admire what they've done, they really didn't think it through that well, and everyone has had to bear the birthing pains..
The 360 has just about got it right, not only can conventional development ideas be used to great effect, but clearly, it is ready to a large extent for this newer more assymetrical development models.
If you look at Where Intel are going with things, it's clear that the idea of a more distributed processing system is something that is going to develop more and more, give it 3 or 4 years and developers of all kinds will be far more exposed to the development techniques..
Just my thoughts, that is all, I don't hold the PS3 in contempt or anything, and It's kind of nice that they have shaken things up a bit, but just see that it's been very badly 'managed'.. but people are waking up, and things are improving..
