PS3 Network Speed

Hi,

A while ago I got a Fibre connection installed (BT Infinity), I have hard wired my Desktop into the router and I'm receiving the full 37mb down that my connection is putting out along with 8mb upload. When I hard wire my PS3 into the router I get around 20mb down and 4mb up basically half of hat the connection can really do, anyone know why the PS3 doesn't output my connection's full speed?

It's pretty much the same speed regardless of the time, you could be right though not sure. Was just wondering if anybody else had experienced the same issues I thought my PS3 network adapter may have been up the left or something.

Have you configured the correct DNS settings? I tend to avoid the "auto" set up for this reason, especially if you have several switches or hubs en route to the modem.

Yeah I go custom when setting up wired and wireless, initially I thought I was doing something wrong when setting it up manually so I tried the 'easy' configuration but I seen no performance boost.

Are you using a web based speed tester or the network testing tool on the PS3 since the latter can give your upload and download speeds at half of what they should be (I should know as it's happened to me).

surely even with 20mbp on the ps3 this is plenty download speed to get demo/etc?
i suppose it could be a limitation of their network?

Exactly you can only go as fast as the servers you’re connecting to.

I think it would be highly unlikely that you'd be able to get the full 47mbit out of Sony's download servers (or many services like this for that matter!). Your getting 20mbit which seems pretty reasonable to me.

In the case of the upload being only half its potential, assuming your getting these numbers from the built in connection test I would suggest it’s a limitation of that software. If playing any games where you’re hosting there shouldn't be any problems with it utilising the maximum available speed.

The Sony content servers could be somewhere in the EU or US as well, so may not be local too.
