Created by Sony as an accurately proportioned replica, the PS3 model may be made entirely from wood, but it takes more than a cursory glance to realise that it's not the genuine article and gave us a good impression of what the Sony powerhouse will look like nestling next to our TV.

The unit is certainly big, although not drastically bigger than an Xbox 360. Positioned vertically side-by-side, the PS3 stands about an inch taller than its rival, while laying the two down horizontally shows that - at its highest point - PS3's convex curve makes PS3 about an inch fatter.

It's not the most beautiful looking beast, either. The underside is 'stacked' with a couple of different sized layers and the overhanging midriff gives the unit a slightly awkward, uncomfortable look. But, hey, PS2 was never going to win any beauty contests either.

So, it's no stunner, but that's never been an issue with consoles in the past. Hopefully, when PS3 finally arrives in November we'll be so blown away with killer games that we won't be concerned with the machines curves, lines and overall aesthetic merit

Doesn't look too bad size wise really, but a lot of people will moan that they want a flat top so you can stack things on top of the system, but I guess it's a good way for Sony to allow heat to rize from the system, and not being blocked by things on top of it.

Build quality wise, I'm sure it'll be pretty good at the end finished product. I was quite suprised at how good most of the 360 build quality was like, compared to the bulky Xbox.
 
By those images, it is definitely bigger than the original Xbox, as the 360 isn't much smaller than the original. Somehow however, I doubt the PS3 will get the same slating, just because it's 'curvy'.

Still, looks alright.
 
It looks huge much fatter then the 360 longer too

Its not going to win any best looking console polls thats for sure
 
i hate the ipod-white 360 aswell, i mean the wii is the only looker in my book. But then against my ****-tip of a hand-me-down room a brick with mud and spiders on would look 'sleek' and 'hi-tec'.

all i care about is whether or not all the rumours about insummountable development costs, cancelled games and 360 level performance prove true or not.

that alone will be the measure of the console.
 
Very messy shape/styling imo.would have thought it would make more sense to style it more like decent AV kit especially seeing as how they want these in peoples lounges as blue ray players.
 
I could see why people would like that design in the 80's. Sony's retro theme worked with the Playstation 2, but this time they've got it all wrong andd made one of the ugliest consoles ever.

Yeah it reminds me of my outback BBQ. I didnt think anything could look worse than the original xbox.

I apologise I was wrong. I will still but one though, when they are £150 probably at easter.
