PS3 - on the way out???!?!

I saw new ones online earlier, at a UK store for £399!

Blimey, that's what I paid for mine last April, and got Click on Bluray and an HDMI cable with it too ;)

Still cheaper than some of the fleabay prices though!

I live in the USA now, and they phased out the 60gig some time ago.. So expect the same to happen in the Euro markets.

I've read that Sony want to sell just the newer models of the PS3 cos they've been able to cut costs when building the machines. Apparently it's half the price to build a new model PS3 than it was to build the original 60gb models.

So of course a better margin/profit for Sony, if they are infact making any money on it yet.

One of the biggest costs for sony in the beginning was the production of the Cell processor if I remember correctly, The production failure rate was astronomical, Because so much of the baked Silicon wasn't meeting standards. And that was driving cost waaaay up.

Surely those costs have come down by now also, Which would be yet another saving.

I thought Sony were making a lot of their money because they sold off the Cell to someone else, IBM possibly?

IBM definately have some sort of Cell Control, But I couldn't tell you, I've not been keeping my eye on it as closely as I Used to. :p Probably a good thing, It was getting unhealthy
