Ive just looked at specs, and noticed that the PS3 only has 256mb of ram? i know it h as 256mb of VRAM aswell but still, i would have expected more considering the 360 has 512mb.

Also anyone know what the PS3's GPU compares to a PC graphics card? i heard it was like a 7900GTX performance but im not sure.

It's way to complex a system to just look at RAM..

THe PS3 has 2 chunks of RAM, adding upto 512, and with some jiggery pokery it's possible to use most of it for general use..

There architectures are very different, sufficed to say even developers can't really decide which is better, and which will have the best games..

With stupendously huge overhead, maybe. System buses were never designed for that kind of use and the bus bandwidth is one of the large limiting factors on the PS3 when compared to the 360.

lol yeah, didn't sell to well though :/

Nearly 2 million and it's only just launched in Europe, not too bad really as 360 has only sold 10mil in it's 1.5 years.

If your going down that track and pointless argument, the wii has sold over 5 million in less time than the PS3.

And in reply to the OP the 360 GPU is more powerful than the PS3 one as has been explained many many times.

I meant the european launch kinda sucked :p .

The bus bandwith for the Cell is far greater to that of the 360 and its CPU, both GPU main memory runs at the same speed about 22.5 Gbits/s, but the Xbox360 has a small amount of on die memory which can be used for things like AA and AF this runs at 256 Gbits/s . The System ram ie not the video on the PS3 runs at 3.2 GHz compared to the 700mhz for the Xbox360.

That may be so but the games don't look any better.

Each to there own think some games look better on a 360 some on a PS3, think with multiplats it will depend on which console it was in development for and if it a port or not. Oblivion looks better on a PS3 (well PC, but this console only here), even with the new patch Bethsada themselves still say the PS3 graphically is the better version. How much is this down to development and how much is hardware i guess we will have to see. When VF5 comes out for the xbox360 it by using the same as it comes out later must have spent more time doing it so should look and run better (doubt it will though). If oblivion was in development for the PS3 at the same time why was it classed as an xbox console exclusive? Surely they would have known, DMC4 was never announced as PS3 exclusive only assumed.

/looks at copy of Oblivion.. it never had an 'Only on Xbox 360' stamp.

But when cell is in swing they'll play better. :)

Think Supreme Commander on the PC. How far does the GPU carry the game in comparison to CPU and RAM?

When the cell is in swing isn't now though is it;) . Its now that matters tbh as well this is when your playing games. Hardly worth doing a comparrison basing the argument 1-2 years in the future by which time the developers on the 360 will be just as far ahead.

+ cross platform i.e the majority of games now will all be similar. Any differences will be marginal between the systems. And by the time the Ps3 is in full swing PCs will have totally wiped the floor with the graphics so it will look last gen on either console.

(I don't support either console btw and have no favourite)

Not on the box but was touted as an Xbox360 exclusive, saints row had an only on xbox stamp and thats out in a month or 2 on PS3. I still think the only exclusive will be first or 2nd party think companies such as capcom,EA, sega etc will eventually all be multi format. The only one im undecided about is namco, there using PS3 tech in some there new machines ie Tekken 6, and with cellius being 51% Namco 49% Sony im not sure what there doing (specially as uncle Kens in charge!)

sure but how many other games are like that ? Its the vast majority that rely more on gpu.

Games are becoming more complex though aren't they. Which warrant something that can handle the complexity. GPU is important I admit, But CPU and RAM are becoming just as important in games.
