Ps3 or 360 for dad

Nope not really - ever thought your previous thread was closed on the belief that recent opinions on several year old tech could be better served by google or existing threads? Are the same questions really worthy of a new discussion?

I think so

Do any of these actually need a recent opinion or were you just too lazy to bother to search/google? Im quite happy to help, but when its obvious its a thread out of poor lethargy, why really should I bother if the OP cant?

ps3ud0

One person in my previous thread said £30, another said £40. On the rainforest store it says £30 for gold membership another site says 49.99 for 12 months (suggested).

I dont see the point in posting in threads if people are just going to say something on the lines of "look on google" Just dont post anything at all

Just let me know when you want your bottom wiped and Ill avoid posting ;)

Apart from your Dad being slightly older than the average gamer here, none of your questions youve asked have not been asked within the last few months. Its readily apparent that most questions could be answered if you asked your Dad first his (learned/non-learned) preference and work from there...

I dont understand why you are so puzzled - go with the cheapest price you can find from a legit seller? My, you worry me...

Thanks. I read in another thread that the 'community' is larger with xbox partly due to the included mic, and that the 360 is easier to use

Maybe i should bear this in mind if he gets into online gaming after playing cod ect.
You're right and wrong really. The 'community' aspect has been severely dented by the addition of party chat. Basically this is private chat, only people in your party can speak to each other. It's been a long time since I added any new friends through playing in public because most of the time people are chatting in party with their RL friends. It's just not the same anymore people don't ineract like they used to, big mistake by MS adding this feature.

xbox is better for chatting to people getting games going etc, and the dashboard to me looks and feels a lot better.

The PS3 is good but the UI needs a update drastically now
I completely disagree. The new xbox metro UI is vile, it's tacky, gimmicky, and navigation is clunky and long winded. The PS3's XMB may look basic but it gets you where you want to go faster and is much more 'fluid'.

I have both, I'm a dad and from my view the xbox is a great games machine but the look and feel of it is directed squarely at the younger audience. The PS3 is simply more mature, for want of a better term.

A worthy note is the fact that the PS3 plays music and videos better than the Xbox 360 (especially now the video playback is borked on the new dash, can link if required) due to the better sound quality and interface (the media player on xbox is prehistoric).

Loved my xbox until they released the new dash, I boot straight from disc nowadays. Beyond playing games, I use the PS3 for everything else.

If he wants games and only games, find out what games he likes and go with that. If he wants media playback too then it has to be the PS3.

How does it connect? If wireless then thats good. My parents only have a pretty slow orange internet connection

Just picked up on this. It doesn't matter how the console connects, wireless or Ethernet, it's still going to be connecting to your parents' network, and therefore is still going to use their slow internet connection.

Wrong about the Party System, It's better because you don't have a full game of little kids screaming down your ear like what used to occur before the party system.

The UI on the 360 is smarter, the only slow aspects are the "Globe menu options" which they haven't updated in a long time.

I don't want to spend 20 minutes looking for a specific item on the PS3 because the menu's etc are so dated it's unreal.

Scrolling up and down to find a specific setting is tiresome and just lacks imagination from sony.

It's so 2006 :p

J beck's post was spot on IMO.

Btw I'm a 39 year old dad....

Nothing wrong with the 360 but unless you have friends with the same console and plan to play online with them regularly then the additional live features you will pay for will more than likely be redundant.

Also the ps3 has some excellent features like vidzone, iplayer, 4od etc which are all free to use. In addition you can get playtv pretty cheap now so you can use the ps3 as a pvr.

A nice slim PS3. I find they're much better, play blu-rays, no little kid screeching when playing online, no online sub' fee, and plays PS1 games (able to download off PSN too, with many other arcade games), etc...

*cough*I have a slim 250gb for sale in the for sale console forum *cough*

*** You should not be trading with members outside MM ***

email in trust guys please. my MM access was removed for saying somoenes item was too expensive

*** Trading off the MM is not prohibited ***

i wouldnt sell it to you anyway, its had ylod repair,it works fine but for how long i have no idea,so i wouldnt want any comebacks, but for the price and box plus its working its worth it imo,i have gta4,resi 5 few other crappy games

for what its worth i had a PS3 which died and then got a 360.

i prefer the 360 for the following reasons...
- i find the UI more friendly and easier to navigate
- i can use sky on it from my dads account (you might be able to do this on PS3 but not sure)
- seems much easier to co-ordinate games with friends and everyone has a mic

PS3 was better for...
- free online
- bluray
- i find the controllers easier to use
- rechargable batteries in the controllers

Hang on, I was referring to the OP comment on the 'community' aspect. communtiy is public, chatting in private with your mates is not 'community'. You can mute the screaming kids anyway, how on earth are you going to make new friends from the public (where some of your party freinds came from originally) when none of you can speak to each other, answer = You're not. Party is private, private means no new 'public' friends made, simple as.

Oh please, 20 minutes? be realistic :)

I can get to my first album or video in 3 seconds after the XMB has loaded, can you do that on a xbox? No chance matey, go try for yourself. While you're there, try and dodge the adverts as you navaigate ;) (had to get that one in sorry)
