PS3 or not to PS3

One mate said it was worst than the 360. The other said it was absolutely leagues above, even on the launch titles.

I'm going to have a go myself this evening hopefully.

Don't forget you're also getting BluRay though.

That can also depend on your picture quality from TV and cables you are using for the consoles. Get the wrong combination and the picture looks pants on either system.

Ok, so I just got changed, went and sat in the car ready to drive to town to go pick a PS3 up.

Then I thought hang on a mo. Enough is enough. Why do I need another console to add to my 360, wii, 2 x xbox 1's and a PS2? There just isnt enough time in the day. So I got out of the car and came back inside.

So why do I need a PS3? That is the question.

Richie.

You're a consumer and they need your money, so believe the hype and go and buy one ;)
Seriously, I dont really need a Wii and a 360, there's enough family entertainment in either machine, if the PS3 was £250 it might be worth a pop to experience some exclusive games, but Sony's film department have killed it for me.

Blu-ray, Linux, making a cup of tea etc will all be a nice bonus at £199 in a couple of years, there are just so many ways of spending cash at the moment. I dont see me replacing my DVDs for at least 2 years anyway, my kids seem to use youtube more than the DVD player

Who gives a **** about blu ray for God's sake. Everyone is "blu-ray this, blu-ray that" - although blu-ray is doing well we do not have a definitive winner at the moment - also I'd prefer to just get a BR player when they are at a decent price. Not every one needs wireless - which is also overlooked.

You are being daft though, this 'discussion' has come up many many times, there is no real answer, although

A 360 is £250 for a premium console in plenty of places
A PS3 is £425....

The fact they have different features doesn't mean much, if I dont' want wireless (which I never would for online gaming), and I don't want a BR player, I still have to pay £425 for a console..

But then if you want VFM, as I reported in another thread...

A PREMIUM 360 + PGR3 + SMACDOWN +XBLArcade Unplugged + Extra Wireless controller = £299
HD-DVD = £130
WiFI £53

that's £483 for a 100% spec'd up bundle with 3 games, HDD, headset, 2 wireless controllers, HD-DVD, WiFi..

And the beauty is, if you don't want HD-DVD or WiFi, you save loads, or if you want, you can buy them later..

The PS3 is a great machine, it is a next gen console, but on VFM it doesn't beat the 360 simply becuase the 360 has such great bundles around at the moment..

i'm not arguing over the price it is still a lot of money for a console

however for the specifications of the system it's not a bad price

as i like my hd stuff and online gaming i think it's worth it however if that's not for you then i wouldnt pay £400+ for a console alone.

i want one, but i am going to wait untill a game comes out that i want to play so much it forces me to buy the console.

i think they call them "system sellers"

:D

It's an added extra. It allows the option of renting and watching films in HD. The dedicated players are still over £500.

It's only a good price if you 'need' everything.. and even then it's not quite as VFM as the 360.. lets just say they are roughly equal when you 'spec' them up..

But if you don't want any of the features, you just don't have a choice with the PS3, with the 360 you can buy cheap now, and expand at your leisure, and it won't even be more expensive in the long run..

If they did a PS3 with no BR/WiFi etc, and it was £250, I'd get one tomorrow..

I'd possibly think about waiting until Sony add rumble back to the controllers as mentioned by Phil Harrison last week as I wouldn't want to be having to buy this/these again. Just a thought...
