Why are PS3 game updates so huge compared to Xbox? I loaded up Bad company 2 for first and gotta download a 1.7gb patch which means by the time it's finished and then waiting for it to install i'll be tired and be in bed -.-

I bet xbox versions like 10mb :|

The patch(es) includes all the map pack updates and the Vietnam expansion, so I can't see it being any different on the 360 unless they've deliberately made them separate downloads.

Just to clarify, the maps are free, but the add-ons (Vietnam and Onslaught) aren't. I can't remember if they were patched in or supplied as separate downloads, but I think it was the former.

It's the same size on the 360. :D

Have to say though, the PS3 patches are reasonable now - around 50MB on average compared to hundreds of MB when it first came out. I guess devs are organising their code properly.

I wouldnt really say that, last few psn games ive downloaded have had patches that are bigger than the orginal download, however i find that the psn + auto patch download for the last few games youve played is very handy, think its patched gt5 a few times now and the patching happens in the morning when im still asleep.

Sometimes it's not only a patch but also complete expension packs you might not even want to pay the unlock for.

A 1.7GB patch is taking the **** though, the latest patches I had to download were GT5 and KZ3 patches and they wer quite small and only took seconds.

There are large updates for BC2 on the xbox too, some over a gig.

However I did notice when I had a PS3 that updates tended to be large... Hundreds of megs for noby noby update? tf?

Only seems to suggest that it's supports incremental updates for firmware updates though, not for games.

As mentioned above, I've also downloaded games from PSN only to have them autopatch after with a patch larger than the original download.

It's crazy that they don't replace download games with an all in one up to date version so you don't have to start patching when you've only just downloaded something.

I remember when console users used to laugh at PC gamers for having to install or patch stuff before they could even play a game...

they would then need to make 2 patches, all in 1 patch and incremental patch, takes more time, i'd rather they work on the next patch than the same patch twice.
