ps3 pricecut in uk?

Well it not been out here as long as it has been in the usa, so it might not see a price cut here for another few months.

The price cuts are due tomorrow for UK/EU.

In America it had been out for 230 days or something so a price drop was easier to drop. Here from what I read thee wwill be no price drop but some sort of bundle deal.

I think I read in 2 places that it may be a PS3 with extra controller + Motorstorm+Resistance for the same £425.

Will have to wait till tomorrow to know for certain. Personally i don;t like the idea of the package deal, whilst the extra controller is a great touch and should be in more console packages, I don't see it as fair for Sony to impose which 2 games you get.

I don't think that will go down to well with all reports of 100 dollar price cut in US everyone here is expecting at least a 50 pound drop, if they kept it same and included all that i wouldn't be very happy i would rather have a cheaper console.

No price cut?

Eurogamer: What about the PS3 price cut? Do you think USD 100 is significant enough to boost their installed base?

Peter Moore: Interestingly, I didn't see a price cut, and I must have been reading the wrong thing. It's still 499 and 599.

Eurogamer: It's 499 for the 60GB or 599 for the 80GB.

Peter Moore: So they've added greater value at the same prices. Which to me is not a price cut. So I don't want to be anal, but I read price cut and I expected to see 399. When I hear the words "price cut" I expect to see a price cut. What they've done is they've added greater value in the form primarily of storage at the same price points. You know, I haven't made any comment - we'll have to wait and see, I did see Nintendo's George Harrison saying that it's ineffective, but the consumer will vote on that, and I think Jack did say, anecdotally, that their sales have doubled over the weekend, so we shall see.

Again, my opinion doesn't matter. They need to see if they can get their rate up from 20,000 a week. If they increase it 20 percent that's only 24,000 a week. So they need to see if they can double or triple their run-rate to get back in line with where they need to be. And I'm not sure adding more value triples their run-rate of sales, and I don't know what's going to happen in Europe because there's nothing been announced there of yet.

You can't buy a Playstation 3 console for less money than you could before, so it's a bit of a disappointing 'cut' as you're just getting a bit extra harddisk space. The reason more people aren't rushing out to buy a PS3 is the $499-$599 price point, not the 60GB storage.

The 60GB PS3 is now $100 cheaper, what doesn't he get?

I think what he is saying, and as Phil99 has just pointed out, you still can't buy a PS3 in the US for under $499. As previously it was $499 for the 20GB and $599 for the 60GB whereas now it it's $499 for the 60GB and $599 for the 80GB. Of course there has been a price cut but those who initially couldn't justify paying $499 for a PS3 still have the same problem.

To me its a price cut also but I think what he means is.

You now get 60gb instead of 20gb storage and you now get 80gb and Motorstorm instead of only 60gb.
You do not get the 20gb at $399

To be fair, the 20GB was discontinued for good reason - nobody wanted it. Unlike the core, as far as i know, you couldn't buy an addon for the 20gb model for the features missing and as a result, consumers felt thier money was best spent on a model which would have all the features they would ever need. The best example of this is Wifi, everyone's upgrading to wifi routers these days, my parents don't have it yet, but they wouldn't buy the 20GB (if they could) because they will one day upgrade thier router and unnecessary cables would send them round the bend.

I also wouldn't buy the 20GB, the prospect of having missing features and no way to regain them aside from investing in a whole new PS3 isn't very appealing to me.

Sony have announced that the 80GB model probably won't be released in the UK, so i'm sure they will just cut the price of the 60GB model and have done with it.

I thought the 20GB was long gone though, not seen anyone talk about it since the start of the year really.

Oh well
