Just wondering what sort of range I'll be able to connect with remote play to my PS3 using my PSP. Basically my flat is right next to a park and I'm wondering if it's worth converting a load of XVids to MP4s so I can sit in the park and watch them on those sunny days when I should be studying.

also, why does converting videos take so damn long? why didn't they just let the PS3 play XVid?

802.11b wifi quoted range is 100m range outdoors, speed quickly drops with range and any walls also significantly reduce the signal. A directional antenna may help.

It takes so long converting videos because the codec h.264 is very powerful. They didn't allow xvid playback becasue they are idiots.

have you ever tried looking at a psp screen in the sun? I don't think it would be worth it personally. If you do want to try it, it might be easier to convert the xvids to mp4 specifically for the PSP screen. 3gp converter does that and should make nice small files. You could fit about 8 or more full length films on a £20 4gb stick from ebay.

yeah - I've been playing PSP games out in the park quite a lot recently, as long as my head's between the screen and the sun it's fine.

I recon it should be fine as 100m is easily far enough and there's only going to be a window in the way.

as for putting the videos on the PSP, I never even thought about that - I've only got 2 1GB memory sticks though. I'll probably try both methods through the summer.

thanks for the replies.
