PS3 Running Slow?

Afternoon All,

A few years ago i had an original PS3 (80gb) which i sold on and i have recently bought a 120gb slim console. I find that the console runs slow flicking around the home screen. Has there been a decrease in hardware spec over the old console?

Also noticed a big difference when copying data onto the internal HDD. Is this normal?

Cheers.

The slim probably has slightly "lesser" equipment; it is much smaller and cheaper after all but it is overall better because it is more efficient with power usage / noise etc

Your HD is probably shot... Trust me there's no difference in speed between the phat and slim. Can you whip out your HD put it a laptop and run some diags on it? You'll probably find that theres a problem.

I too had exactly the same issue on a slim. swapped the hd and it was fine...

Oh and I've had two phats and two slims.. Currently have 3 ps3's in my digs and all three are exactly the same speed.. FORTUNATLEY I had another to compare speed against, otherwise i'd of been none the wiser.. Everything worked fine, just that it was slower than my phat which sent me on the path to investigate as to why.

Take a full backup of the PS3 before doing this. As soon as you connect it it a desktop machine it will ask you to format the drive as it does not recognise the file system, by this point you will have altered the drive's signature making all the data on the drive unreadable in the PS3.

TBH, i think you can get around that by launching something like Dell's 32-bit diagnostics. (on a dell laptop obviously) You wont even get to any format stage.
