PS3 sales surge 178 percent in the UK

The time HD-DVD gets down to sub £100 then there will be a Blu ray player to match it. Being a 360 fanboy is quite a childish reason for you to want Blu-Ray to fail.

i sold my 360 and bought 8800 gts, 2gb ram and a new lcd monitor

pc has a lot to offer now, enough to keep me busy for a year. i'm playing tf2 most nights

fanboys can't save the ps3 anyway, it needs general acceptance

most ps3 sales are probably down to fan loyalty (ps1 and ps2 owners) right?

no im pretty sure that isnt the case. people would sooner spend £80 on a ps2 than £400 (as it was at the time) on a ps3 to play old games. no i think people (possibly wrongly) bought them for the ps3 games, or like me (im definately not the only one) bought one for bluray and general multimedia capabilities.

Games still dont factor much at all for me, though i think ratchet and clank could prove to be the turning point for the ps3's gaming catalogue

most ps2 fans are yet to decide. ps2 sold 110 mill, 360 has sold 12 mill, ps3 5 mill (approximations, can't be bothered to check the figures). So it is arguable that most people from last gen have yet to decide.

and of course a number of people may well have bought a PS3 and an X360, so your percentage of people still to decide rises rapidly (theory is spot on though :D)

Personally think the PS3 has huge amount more potential for sale this Xmas than the X360 (the wii of course has huge potential but seemingly tiny reality as its permanently sold out - whehter this is Nintendo saving up for huge Xmas delivery is pure guesswork.....)

I only say that the X360 has less potential because its already been on sale for 2 Xmas's (albeit one completely sold out in 05) so its naturally going to attract less interest - theoretically anyway.

Thats not even including people who buy the PS3 soley/mainly for BR - which is becoming more and more common

would be interesting to see what the sales are between 40gig and 60gig, i still believe probably a fair share have gone out to buy the 60gig with all the cherries on top because they believe the Sony's PR Spin about the 40gig to become the standard.

Indeed, I think most people will see the 60gb as better value than the 40gb if they think about it for more than 2 seconds!!

I think for a couple of weeks we will see big sales for the 60gb version, then it will die down as mainly 40gbs are left, and then they will start to sell even more as closer to xmas retailers stick a free game or spider-man blu-ray into the £299 model.

In theory this should mean a competitive xmas against the 360.

2 obvious things to throw a spanner in the works

Sony do something stupid like reveal/leak details of a better 80/120gb model prematurely.
or
Microsoft release the xbox 360 arcade edition in the UK at a decent price (I don't think we will see any official drops in Elite or Premium now before 2008, but the new arcade bundle could create a surge in the dieing Core market).

OT where do you get the Heroes sig?

While I'm not really a lover of the PS3 (overpriced, not enough good games yet, etc) I'm glad it's starting to sell more as that'll mean more competition, which will inevitably lead to better games and better prices. That can only benefit us as consumers which suits me fine :)

Totally agree mate, the main reason why I want Sony to 'catch-up'

Remember the SNES v Megadrive days? That was a good time to be a gamer, both companies trying so hard to get the upper hand.

how long is it going to be before 3rd party companies other than Toshiba start producing HD-DVD players?

im hoping sub £100 HD-DVD players are going to sink Bluray for good.

no offence, just don't want Bluray to win

Why? I hate sony as much as the next sane person but blue ray IS the superior format and I see no reason at all to hope for a HD-DVD win except region free formats.
