Help me, I'm confused...........

I want to buy a PS3 and use the 'AV MULTI OUT' for going into my TV via component + 'OPTICAL' out going into my AV amp, and at the same time use the 'HDMI OUT' going into my projector, can this be done ?, also if I have the HDMI going from the PS3 straight to my projector what about the audio from Blu-Ray's, does'nt the audio get transmited via the HDMI or can I set it to output through 'OPTICAL' ?

OR :D

because I have a crappy old yammy AV amp atm would it be better for me to upgrade that to something like a Onkyo TX-SR605 and have the PS3 plugged into that via HDMI and then from the amp use component out for my TV (I'm guessing it can do HDMI to component conversion ?) and then also from the amp HDMI out to my projector ?

what do you think guys, what the best way to do this, these are the individual components that I want to connect together,

1) PS3.

2) Panosonic PT-AX200E LCD Projector.

3) Old LCD tv that lacks HDMI but runs fine @ 720 via component, I really don't want to upgrade this as I only use my PJ to watch films and upgrading my TV just for the sake of having HDMI really doesn't seem worth it.

The PS3 can output video via HDMI and sound via optical at the same time, so your first option will work fine. :)

PS3 > HDMI > Projector
PS3 > Component + Optical > AV (> TV)

Set the PS3 BD settings for the optical output to bitstream and let your AV do the decoding. You might have to change the PS3s output settings each time you switch between HDMI and Component as it can't do both at once.
