Hi there

Am just in the process of setting up my new PS3 - am connecting it via HDMI cable to my HP w2207h monitor which i also use for my PC.

The PC connection is fine (VGA) but its not picking up the HDMI from the PS3. Every time I attempt to switch video input i get the "No input signal" message. :(

Any advice anyone can give would be greatly appreciated

Is your monitor HDCP enabled?
Does it work to your TV through HDMI? It's not just a case of needing to reset the video on the PS3?

Yeah am pretty sure the monitor is HDCP enabled. Am using the HDMI cable that came with the monitor !

My television isn't HD so I cant try connecting it up there - hence amtrying to connect to my PC monitor

Edit - would i be right in saying the PS3 is not set up on HDMI as default?

No, it's set to composite. Hold the power down from when it's off, until it turns on, then off again. When you turn it back on you *should* see an image.

STOP STEALING MY THUNDER!!1 :p
He is right though, it will beep.

Infact, msmalls74 wrote a brilliant thread which is stickied at the top of consoles which is a pretty comprehensive overview of the PS3, with FAQ and solutions in case you get any further problems.

damn dude that sucks TBH, checked your monitor and it does do HDCP.

You where sold a monitor that is not fit for purpose and faulty surely they can replace it for ya.

if not and its going to take ages for a replacement al think about letting you borrow the 37 ;)

Cheers bud - I'll keep that in mind ;)

Yeah, the store should have swapped the faulty monitor for you really.

They said they would have but apparently they've nothing set up HDMI wise in store to test it  and due to being out with the 28 days requested I contact HP.

I dont mind really as am sure I'll probably get a better level of service from dealing directly with HP as opposed to the monkeys, I'll give em a call tomorrow and let uyou know how i get on.

Oh dear - how wrong was I?

50 minutes on the phone to some monkey in a foreign call centre who first of all manages to disconnect the call. On the second attempt am told there could well be a problem with my graphics card

After "polite negotiations" with the "agent" and his manager and told to expect a call back mid-day "their time" which is 2200 here

At which point they will organise a time to pick up this monitor and exchange it for another one.

Hp are apalling with customer service. The other company aren't as you can almost force something through their in-store management. Get the SOGA and take it in-store, where they will swap it over. Take your PS3 in if you have to as a HDMI device.

dude that sucks, get back in their with your reciept ask for a replacement there and then and a free game for compensation :D

Hi there

Just giving you guys an update - the date for picking up the monitor has come and gone and i've not heard a thing.

Got a letter through from HP yesterday which was probably due to my "rant" email I sent to their customer services department stating what a farce their outsourced "technical" support is. Apparently they've been trying to contact me - phoned them up and spoke to a bloke based in Britain who advises they didn't have a note of my telephone number even though I clearly stated this on numerous occasions to the monkey in the foreign call centre.

I kept calm, dont really see as though there's any point in screaming & shouting at the bloke on the other end of the phone (its not his fault) and its not going to get anything done any quicker even when he told me they dont have any stock left of that particular model of monitor though it should be back in stock within two weeks  He also said compensation for such poor service will be sorted out when they organise the swap the monitor over so its not too bad.

So within the next two weeks it should all be fixed, perhaps I should have gone back to the purple shirt brigade in the first place but after all the trouble i've been through with HP I'll wait and see what happens. As it stands just now I've got my PS3 hooked up to my non HD 27" television and though am not getting the full benefit the games are still cool.

Am also purchasing a 40" Samsung HD televsion next month, its second hand from a mate at work but it's at a good price - so you can expect to see my pic in the "show us your PS3 setup thread" soon :D

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions given though peeps - much appreciated :D

Seems like hell of a lot of hassle for nothing :(

I'd have gone back to the purple bods with the SoGA in hand, oh well, at least HP are co-operating with you.. better than nothing!

Look see - its all working now:-

Monitor got picked up on the day they said it would and swapped over with no problems. I'll be getting my 40" Samsung next month so I'll keep the ps3 hooked up to the pc monitor in the mean time :D
