PS3?? Should I?

Lies Streeteh! You're a fully fledged member of the SDF and don't deny it ;)

Oh ok. Tbh I didn't know about SFIV & RE5 so that's cool. All I know is KZ2 doesn't let me do it and I figured if that didn't, nothing would. If that 3.0 firmware update actually enables cross-game chat then I'd go as far as to say it would make PSN as good as Live.

For all it MP greatness the community side of KZ2 is some what lacking compared to some of the other MP games. For example if i look on my friends list and some one is playing Resistance 2 say i can load up that game and join him in game as long as the player count allows it. The main benfit of XBL is that these things are standard as part of the OS rather than a feature to be added by the devs. Anyway back on topic.... Get a PS3 but wait till see what happens with the price over the next couple of weeks.

This is an important distinction that cannot be stressed enough though. When KZ2 came out, I convinced about 5 of my Xbox Live addicted mates to get PS3s in order to play it and LBP with me. All five of them played on PSN for about a week then, after lots of cursing (aimed at me), went straight back to Live. To this day, I still buy them drinks.

I just think that any gamer used to their 360 and Live needs to take into consideration the possibility that they are buying something that is, arguably, inferior in various respects to what they already have, particularly when it comes to online features. If you are set on a particular PS3 exclusive game though, sure go for it! For me, I'm just happy with my PS3 because I love surfing the net on a wireless controller whilst in bed!

I tend to use mine just for blu-ray / media now but it's still nice to have the option to play games when big releases come out.

I know blu-ray players are dropping in price but I would still buy a PS3 purely for its media capabilities. Everything else is just a bonus to me.

Right, I got a 360, not really playing it that much atm, good weather is stopping me staying inside! Too much sun, perfect sticky roads = fun riding :D

Anyways, yea, was thinking, I might treat my self to a PS3, couple of questions though...

1) PSN - Cost anything? How does it work? Any good?
2) .mkv HD film files, if I download (legally!) a 1080p .mkv file, will I be able to play this on the PS3 and if so, how?
3) Any decent games? Look at my xbl page to see the games I play :)
4) Is the 80GB version w/ little big planet and killzone 2 for £300 any good? :D
5) Any extra's that I NEED to buy to have a good time with the console?

ags

I bought a PS3 for a very good price off MM this year. It has sat unused under my TV for 90% of the time.

Why?

1. I have a Popcorn Hour A110, and it destroys the PS3 in every possible way when it comes to media playback (as long as you have a BD-Rom for your Blu-rays). I am referring to format support, and streaming capability mostly.

2. No godamned time. I don't expect you to fall into this category, but life is full at the moment, and being a PC FPS junkie makes it even harder to pull myself onto the PS3. Also, given that every multiformat game I am interested in will be superior on the PC (graphics-wise), I will favour it over the PS3 every single time.

Okay having said that there are a number of nice features that to me, have made it worth the purchase:

1. Photo Album app: no kidding. The wife loves this, the family too. Appreciating your family photos on a 42" screen is awesome.

2. Blurays: If you want full HD then this is the way to go (if you don't have an alternative).

3. Games: Now this is contentius territory, but I believe the 360 outclasses Sony's machine in quality titles, and in online infrastructure. Sure, you pay a premium for that, but if you use it then its worth it. Having said that, there are a number of exclusives already sitting on my shelf waiting for my attention - Metal Gear Solid 4 and Uncharted. Also, having a 360, you don't miss out on the exclusives released for that machine.

I reckon that if you can grab the console for less than £200, you should go for it. If not, then hold off for price drops on the current model.
