I got my ps3 slim at launch
i had used it on the upstairs hdtv (720p set) until last night i moved it into the living room (1080p set)
all was going well until this morning the picture disappeared to a 'no signal' message on the tv
i have two hdmi slots and both work fine with my xbox 360
i have tried reseting the ps3 video settings to no avail
the only way i can get the slim to output video now is via composite
any ideas
my 40gb died recently and im pretty deflated about the whole ps3 thing right now :(
i have tested the scart, composite, vga and hdmi sockets on my tv with other devices , xbox 360, sky etc and they all output fine

oh ffs

my 40gb with a broken blu ray drive works fine on the tv on either hdmi slot

so i have two ps3's, one that wont play disks and a slimmer one that wont output in ****** hd :(

Have you tried holding the power button on powerup to try and reset the tv/display preferences ? may or may not help.

Btw therer is some kind of deal where your warranty is at least 18 months with sony is it not?

Even then, did someone not mention a thread re warranties on certain goods?

That's what you get for buying an inferior product, should have got a 36....oh wait.

What happened to reliable consoles?

i have three working xbox 360's that so far have not had the rrod ;):D
i can just see them dying one by one now

tried this with no joy, mostly...
once or twice in the last hour or two of trying it has come on in 576p but when i try to reconfigure settings the pic goes again. i must stress this happened just once or twice, normally holding the start button down until i hear the second beep does nothing
oddly it still works fine upstairs on my years old 720p set
the picture was fine downstairs - we had watched a 1080p film on it this morning but when i plugged in my usb pendrive back in to copy over some files the pic died i dunno if something just 'went'

Dude, just box up your Slim and go back to the store and change it, simple as, and don't let them convince you to send it off to Sony, they are legally obligated to refund/replace your product.
I'm sorry but you're totally wrong. They are responsible for providing a working product and that can be through a repair or a replacement which is at the shops discretion. If they can't provide either of those as an option then they are liable to provide a refund. You can stand there and argue with the store if you want but if they say it's going for a repair then it's going for repair. They are fully within their rights as a retailer to repair a faulty product, regardless of how old it is. Fortunately all the major retailers will replace products within the first month or so.

actually iirc then as the product is less than 28 days old then the op can legally demand either a refund or replacement.

Wrong.

Under a 16 day period you are legally entitled to have your money refunded, the Slim was officially released on the 1st of this month.

Where are you getting this information from? I've never heard or seen of this before and from some googling I can't find any information about it.

He's talking crap, someone always does.
This was a sale in person, not via mail order, so the DSRs don't apply, and it's 14 days anyway for these.

The Sale of Goods act makes no provisions for refunds, simply states that the goods must be of 'merchantable quality' and free from 'defects'. Within the initial 6 months, the onus of proof that the defect was caused by the user lies with the retailer, and after this period the burden of proof rests upon the consumer.
If there are defects/ issues, the retailer is given a 'reasonable' period of time to resolve these (Generally taken to be within 28 days).

OK chill out, people on here get so stressed.

Faulty goods

Under the Sale of Goods Act 1979, you are entitled to return and get a refund if items do not meet the basic criteria stated above. You do not have to accept a credit note or gift voucher instead of a full refund.

If the retailer refuses a refund, complain higher up the chain of command, - to the head office if needs be.

If you have no luck, seek advice from the Citizens Advice Bureau or your local Trading Standards office. Failing that, you can take the company to court. If the goods are worth less than £5,000 you can take the retailer to the small claims court and you don't need a solicitor.
