Hi all I have just hard wired my ps3 and pc to the same router using cat 5 cable. Before that I had my pc connected wirelessly to the router and my ps3 hard wired to the router.

I have always played vidoes/music located on my pc over the network onto my ps3. Some of my blu ray encodes always stuttered using wireless connections but music and dvd encodes were perfectly fine.

However since I have hard wired everything performance has dropped through the floor I cannot even play a standard dvd encode over the network anymore. I get one seconds of playback and it will literally hang for 30 seconds then play the next second.

I have checked network usage on the pc (100mbit) connection and it is basically at less than 1%. However if I swap my ps3 out for my laptop (on the same ethernet connection) the nic on my main pc is maxed out and I get smooth playback.

Any suggestions as this is bugging the hell out of me!

Duplex mismatch on the PS3 maybe. Check the PS3 is set to auto negotiate and is sitting at 100mbit full duplex.
alternatively you could try forcing the port on the router it's connected to up to 100 full and see if that sorts it.
