PS3 Timeline by Third Party

Hardly seen any ads for the DS, seen dozens for the PSP - marketing only gets you so far.

HD hasn't been a buzzword? What planet are you living on? All ive seen the last year or so is ads for tv's that are HD compatible, go into any electronics retailer and you'll see HD ready left right and centre on the tv's. Theres booklets available in these stores teling the differences in hd over regular definition. To say HD hasn't had a lot of advertising and hasn't got people talking is pretty stupid.

As ive said, HD HAS name recognition now, most people are clued into what its all about, dvd is the same, wasn't that long ago video stores only had a few dvd's, now all the vhs tapes in most stores are in one corner while dvd dominates all the shelf space, people got to know what it was all about and more people started to buy them. People generally trust what they know, thats why when it comes to HD-DVD vs blu-ray i can see most people going the HD-DVD route simply because they know what dvd is and HD has been in ads and on tv for ages now. Not exactly hard to make the connection that being hd-dvd = superior picture quality.

psp isn't make or break for Sony..

the PS3 pretty much is the future of the company.

It seems some on these boards simply CAN NOT accept the fact that the Systems launch has been a complete mess.
It isn't this at all, it's more to do with the fact that you CAN NOT accept that most people on these forums who have a PS3 are very happy with their purchases!

At £400+ they are hardly gonna say "i wasted my cash" are they?

and with a sig link like yours well that just about sums it up really where your loyalty's lie so anything you say can be taken with a pinch of salt reagrding PS3 or xbox360 , can it not?

lol

Strange - I have seen loads of ads for the DS... do you not have a TV? The people dressed up in black suits holding little Mario's jumping them up and down - have you missed these?

Also you have to remember that nintendo already had the handheld market tapped and no other handheld has been a success against it. The PSP has done extremely well to sell the units it has. Likewise Sony had the console market sewn up and Microsoft has done extremely well to sell what it has. The man on the street doesn't care about the hype, or the systems performance - he just wants the next gen of his fave games console. Rgeardless of what you think about Sony or about there launch strategy going wrong etc, this fact will save Sony's bacon.

Here we go - exactly what I'm talking about. I REALLY do not think that I wasted my money.

As regards my loyalties, I don't think the sun shines out of Sony's ass but I admit I don't like MS... guess I'm not entilted to an opinin then in that case!
And I guess your sig pic isn't making a statement?

I have lots of TV's, I don't watch much 'TV' though. Maybe I've missed all the DS ones but I still figure there's been more PSP since those are the only ones I've ever seen.

Your exactly the type of person that has the problem agreeing its a poor launch with everything pointing to such but no no we are just plain wrong.

Its not about owners of thePS3 that have imported its your failure to actually prove whats so damn good about the console. Yet anyone that criticises it is just a moaner. I think owners of a Wii or a X360 are currently getting more enjoyment from their systems than PS3 owners are.

Of course you went and got a friend to bring you an import. Last i remember reading was you were already looking to flog or swap a couple of games.
Ive read many reports on other forums including some particulary from NTSC UK that at least can admit to saying yeah their dissapointed, it just seems to be beyond you to admit this, people here can decide for themselves but i think the majority we ask really whats so darn attractive about getting one NOW or even come the UK launch?

Shall we remind everyone the reasons a PS3 is such a good idea at the moment.

Reasons you need to get a PS3 NOW

F1 2006 Jap No Online Play
Motorstorm No Online Play No 2 Player Support
GTHD Demo (one of the strongest reasons to get one but only if your keen to spend £400 for a demo with 10 cars, 1 track no AI cars and just a time trial which you must have now)

Resistance Fall of Man (aparently not a bad game but is it a system seller?)
Bu Ray = If you really find the available catalouge appealing and just have to get a Hi Def video player right now.

And you go into any computer store and you'll see Intel Core Duo etc stuck everywhere, doesn't mean your average joe gives a ****. And yes there probably are booklets telling them how much better Core Duo is too.

DVD's first came out in 1997, but it wasn't untill 2003 that it became the dominant format, mainly because your average joe blogs couldn't afford it up till then. Six years is plenty of time for the format wars to be over by.

I've seen the odd ad for HD, but they don't explain what it is, so unless your average joe goes into a store and reads the booklets, they won't know what it is anyway (who actually does read them? :\).

Of course you need to defend it if some of it is a load of cobblers.

Wii had to be updated at launch to access anything online. The 360 had to be updated soon after launch if you wanted to connect to Live.

Ummm no it didnt, i got my 360 @ launch and within 10mins of being home i was playing MP PGR3 online... no updates....

and the update that came out a few months after launch was increased capability which user wanted (active downloads etc.)

Can i just add something about the updates, as i am not going to be drawn into a whole arguement here.

but if a game requires a certain firmware version, then that firmware is on the game disk, same as with the PSP. So you don't really need to connect to get the firmware.

I think the original comment regards the updates is the point that to use the actual network you have to get the update before you can play. Its not about future updates with X360 would allow you to play without an update upon its release. The topic was actually about quality control or why this update isnt done on the systems prior to being shipped. Which im sure will be fixed but for launching it like that, tut tut...

One other point though, what has to be done with the PS3 controler when you open it out of the box?

I have never stated that they have had a good launch, but then again the PS2 didn't have a good launch either as it was plagued with problems and delays.

A bit of critisism is a healthy thing - the amount you give tells me you have way too much time on your hands

Well they would be wouldn't they - the 360 has been out for over a year and has more titles available for it! I have never really been keen on Nintendo since the SNES because the games never really appealled although I actually like what the Wii is doing and if I had more time to play games then I would probably get one.

Yes I was your right - the reason though was because I bought too many and don't get enough exclusive use of the TV to play them.

AAAAAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!!
WHAT DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND? I'm genuinley NOT dissapointed - what should I be dissapointed about? I have my PS3 and my HDTV and I have a handfull of games which I enjoy playing on it!!! I only ever had a handful of games at one time with the PS2 as I just don't get time to play them all. You seem to think I should be kicking myslef because the 360 has GoW on it!

No this is what you ask, again and again and again, we just go round and round in circles. I havent seen a thread called whats so attractive about getting a PS3 now but you keep on saying this is what everyone wants to know!!!

Go on then - remind us all AGAIN... honestly you're becoming like Jabbas little mate popping up all the time on every PS3 thread with the same points you have already stated a hundred times already - do you just go over your old posts to copy and paste?

Nothing, it comes precharged and you just turn it on. You don't even need to pres any buttons on the console to synch it.

not necessarily, but they sure as hell have heard of it and think it sounds cool even if they dont know what it is/does

I really laughed at your answers, i cant determine if your just taking the P155 or are indeed serious.

You probably believe Sony are going to reach their 6 Milion target then for Spring eh.

Have you seen how many people have purchased a Wii or X360 on these forums lately, I wonder how many of them will also feel the need or want for a £425 Blu Ray Player, sorry i mean games console.

You're not looking at the big picture though are you. Many people on these forums would buy all the consoles out as they are hard core gamers - why else would people overclock a PC other than to max out gaming performance, and this is an Overclockers forum.

There have been roughly 110 million PS2's sold to date so far. The Xbox and Gamecube sold roughly 25 million units each. The majority of casual gamers don't research what console to get and will just buy what they know about.
I think you seriousley underestimate just how many people will buy it because it's a Playstation - they have a 110 million strong customer base to tap into after all.

Quick anyone thinking about buying a PS3 don't - you might have to wait an hour for the controller to charge!

Well maybe I have more to spare then;)

I get all the PS3 love I need at home as I have one - now where did I put that KY :)

Casual gamers don't pay premium prices though and I would probably believe most of them know of the xbox 360 by now due to the large scale advertising MS are doing.
