Could anyone tell me if it is possible to connect a playstation 3 to an apple cinema 20' display? Do I need a HDMI to DVI cable?

Thanks

I guess it is possible with a HDMI > DVI cable but you will be limited to 1080p max and I don't know if you can play (BR) DVD's with DHCP on that display.

PS3's can't output higher than 1080p anyway, can they?
No, 576p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p (1920x1080)

Computer monitors usually have a different native resolution meaning the imgae will almost always be scaled which can look bad depending on the LCD used.

The problem is HDTVs are 16:9, while monitors are 16:10 resulting in different 'standard' resolutions. Decent monitors will simply leave the top and bottom margins of the screen blank so the picture remains unstretched, cheaper monitors however will stretch the vertical aspect by just over 10% thus resulting in a rather awful picture.

Best to try and save up for a cheap HDTV if i'm honest.

For future reference; I have discovered that Apple Cinema displays will not work with a Playstation 3 as they do not support HD. In the end we had to get a Dell monitor with HDMI input.

That's pretty disappointing, considering their astronomical pricetags. Was it an older monitor?

I used my PS3 with my 20" Samsung monitor for a while before I got my TV, worked very well and looked excellent. the mis-matched resolutions weren't noticeable.
