PS3 turns on automatically?

Hey all

I am a new PS3 owner and first time hooking it upto my TV (via HDMI) and when I turn it off with either by controller or the button, the PS3 turns off but then turns its self on straight away after.

Anyone had this problem and know how to fix it?

Is HDMI Control turned on in the settings?

Do you have PSN+? The PS3 will turn itself back on if during the time assigned in the settings where it will download patches/updates/etc and upload saves to the cloud. If that's the case it should only do it the time has come and it hasn't had chance yet.

I think I had mine set to do so at 8am in the morning when I'd be snoozing away in bed.

I have never plugged the internet cable in, but the previous owner did have access as there are games installed

Ps3 does have wifi, is it connected to your router?

It's not going to be Playstation Plus anyway, I'm imagining it happens every time he switches the console off, he'd have to be switching it off within the two hour timeframe every time he uses it which would be pretty unlikely. The automatic download feature also switches the console straight back off if there's nothing to download.

it shouldn't be as ive not assigned it with the routers password

I went to settings and the "Control for HDMI" is switched "off"

I updated the PS3 and its still turning on again, I just cant shut it off !!

Mine used to do that. Would come down on a morning and it would be on.

I'd be inclined to do a full factory reset, but I suspect it's a hardware issue.

ok. but if I did that would I loose all my installed games?

seems to be work now, well, not all the time, just very occasionally..
