PS3 UK Demand

adjusting for inflation would add 50 quid onto the PS price though.

but thats not why its priced so high in the UK, its simply down to Sony Europe thinking thats what they can get away with charging..

An addition of 50pounds (estimate) would probably lead to another addition of extra VAT on top if am right.

Doesn't inflation run at about 2-4% a year? Assuming 4% over 7 years on £299 gives you £393. Or am a being stupid?

I hate to sound like am helping sony to justify the prices but maybe an exact figure of the inflation rates since then might be better.

and wage doesnt go up at the same rate as inflation so why would the average joe be able to afford it anyhow .

I think for the private sector (which is what the majority of the country work for) wages go up higher than inflation. It is only public sector workers who get inflation or below inflation pay rises.

I would cry if I only get a 2-3% payrise annually (working in the private sector).

Yep I thought it was around that TBH?

Ok so maybe it's not all inflation, but I still think it's reasonable. I mean a Blu Ray player alone will set you back about £800+ IIRC. Excellent price for people, like me, who want Blu Ray.

If certain people still want to argue this is too dear then the simple solution is don't buy one!

we had a sony rep into work recentley and he claimed that sony were actually making a loss on the sales of consoles (due to the price of the blue ray)

They are until they reach a specific number in term of sales, at which it becomes cheaper to make as cost goes down..iirc.

You have to remember a lot of people are still recovering from Christmas (money wise), and with summer coming up most people don’t want to be sat around playing video games so buying a games console won’t be on many peoples minds (apart from the DS and PSP). I am sure Christmas will see a huge increase in PS3 sells.

look to most people the ps3 is not a blue ray player, its a games console so £425 for a games console is quite a lot of money :D :p

Plus it sounds like it is basicall rubbish and totally over hyped just like the ps2 was. (emotion engine - my ****) :o :p

Cars seem to be the same price for equivalent models in 2000 and 2007 and PC parts also tend to hang around the same price brackets. Your paying the same price but getting a more up to date product.

I think it will be easy enough to pick up a PS3 off the shelves on release but I think they will become harder to find as will be slowly restocked over the following month.

When I get a PS3 I only want a console though. So saying it's a Blu-Ray player is pointless, I don't care, I don't want a blu-ray player, I want a console.

I agree. I doubt we'll see the "launch day shortages" we've become accustomed to recently... partly because of Sony shipping a shedload of consoles to the UK but partly because of the RRP.

However, I have no doubt that the stocks will eventually run dry, at which point we'll all be entitled to Sony's marketing bods enjoying their 15 seconds of fame whilst spouting on about how demand has out-stripped supply, struggling to meet demand, having to increase production to cater for demand, yada yada yada. Just like all the marketing bods at all the other console companies do.

Inflation makes the PS3 similar in proce to the Ps one was on launch.

As i've said MANY times before ;) the PS3 is good value, just the XBox is cheap (cheap in a good way tho...) :)

Damn me wanting new things...the PS3 seems ropey to me and I STILL want one :(

/cry

I think I'll go buy COD3 for the 360 as I really liked COD2.

Could it be the "buy shiny new latest console" syndrome ?? ;)

If so I may be suffering from it as well!!

Goodman. I doubt there would be shortages initially but perhaps when everyone knows how good it is etc...
Because of the ridiculous cost of making a PS3 sony will delay their second wave for a long time.
