Guys,

I want to plays some Vids on my PS, but AVI I understand is not supported? What should I convert these vids too? And can anyone recommend a decent video converter?

Thanks

Andy

I've converted to MP4 yet the PS3 still isn't picking it up, instead of it saying "Unsupported Data" it just isn't even listed.

Fraid not mate, this is still a problem on the psps firmware and thats on 3.52 now or summat. Only possible on custom firmware were devs have realised how annoying it can be. Think it must be some sort of issue or they plan to incorperate such video formats as sony havent done anything about it yet.

He's trying to play it on his PS3 not his PSP.!!!

Do a google for 'PS3 video 9', I don't know if it's the best converter but it's free - they also do one called 'PSP Video 9' ;)

Not sure if Nero Recode will work for you? It is supposed to make MP4/H.264 files. Whether they're valid for the PS3, I don't know. I haven't got round to trying it myself yet. I'm using CloneDVD mobile to convert my DVDs into MP4 for PS3/iPod.

Right guys, I downloaded both converters.

I'm converting using the PS3 Video 9, but it takes about 2 hours for a 300mb Vid!!
I've tried Clone DVD Mobile and have selected the PS3 config, but it won't let me add AVI files? Is it because it's a trial version or something?

Yes but I believe the point he was trying to make is that the PSP has had a shedload of firmware revisions, all the way up to 3.52, and PS3 still has the same issue therefore it's unlikely to get fixed any time soon.

Sorry, I went slightly OT when I mentioned that. It's for converting DVDs only. If you've got AVI files then you need to use something else to go to MP4 directly.

My point was as Phemo said, if they havent sorted it on the psp by now, why would the ps3 be any different????

PSPs & PS3s XMB is pretty much the same !!

ah, I see - now it's been explained to me it makes sense!

This is doing my head in, I've been converting vids for most of the day to mpeg4. I have then in the Video folder in my documents, yet my PS3 doesn't display them as if they don't exist?

I'm streaming from my laptop btw, other video's exist but not the one's I've converted, theyre not even displayed as "unsupported data"

Any ideas?

Start up Windows Media Player and check that they're in your library. (I'm assuming you're streaming that way.) You might need to add the videos manually if they're not in the library.

I use TVersity, it can convert (and download) a 300MB AVI in 20 minutes or stream from the host computer without issues.

Hi,
How does the program work? I have searched for media servers but it doesn't seem to find TVersity, just my laptop...

I can't add the vids as WMP doesn't play MPEG4's :(

You need to open port 41952 on your router for the IP of the PS3 and 'server'

I used this page to set up my system: http://tversity.com/support/quickstart/

The Mediaserver is found as soon as you start the PS3 so I guess you need to open the port, also set the target device to PS3 in the TVersity settings.

Usually I use the browser to browse to the shared video files, select a DIVX AVI and convert/download it to the PS3 for easy viewing, quality is decent but compared to the original is worse.

You can also stream the files directly but this means you cant fast forward etc....
