anybody know whats the best deals to go on Ps3 bundles?

40gb or 60gb, bit new to console gaming!

-Neoni.

Now is the best time to get the 60gb version. Once that stock runs out we'll probably see an 80gb version replace it for a higher price.

Personally, I wouldn't go anywhere near the 40gb version.

What makes you think you'll like the PS3? You were very vocal in the Xbox360 under-performing before launch, so why do you think the PS3 would be any better (and it's not, it underperforms more than the Xbox360).

The range of games :] such as GTA:IV just think the quality is better ?

i saw them at i26, i know there now good machines. i26 were pre-release machines.

GTA:IV is one of many games set to be better on Xbox360 due to exclusive episodic content.

As for the range of games being better on the PS3... you're mad. The PS3 has good games, but the vast majority of its best games are all multi-format, and of all the good games (or what I'd rate good games) all of them perform better on the Xbox360. Short of Heavenly Sword and Ratchet & Clank, the PS3 isn't offering anything this year.

What quality is better on PS3?

non of the above mattered to me and i use my ps3 everyday. Some people just know what they want!

he asked if there were any good bundles out there for it.. not if he should get one!

Im considering an xbox now after discussions with Nokkon!

I think he means better build quality which is spot on, also nokkon you forgot uncharted and as for gta4 dlc no one knows what it is or how good it will be, so I would not class it as a determining feature.

Also can a thread asking for advice on ps3 deals stop being turned into a versus thread, I knew I would find a few of the usual type of posts in this thread

Nokkon, I agree with you, but just let it go its not worth your time arguing over it :)

40Gb = Cheaper with all the non-essential stuff cut out (memory card readers, built-in backwards compatability etc)
60Gb = More expensive, but with the added features minus the backwards compatability for Europe (another big **** You from Sony :)) - [will soon be discontinued]

Bundles cant be linked to since most if not all places that stock it would be a competitor, but if you look hard enough you can find decent deals all over the place, just simply choose the kind of games that appeal to you.

I would personally hold off a few months TBH, which would mean:
-Cheaper and better deals
-More games
-No need to waste more money on rumble control pads (when they eventually hit the market)

True, forgot about Uncharted. I apologise, however if it's as good as Mass Effect I'd be very surprised.

The extra content was $50,000,000... I'd expect something pretty bloody special as Gears of War was made for less than $10,000,000, so I'd definitely see it as a determining feature.

It wasn't a versus thread, I actually know Neoni personally and have spoken to him over MSN for a couple of years, so I specifically remember him stating he didn't like the Xbox360, so I mentioned it.

After talking to him on MSN he was clearly blinded by the hype machine of believing the PS3 was far more powerful etc.. He openly admitted to being new to the consoles anyway, so it would be rude to not inform him wouldn't it?

If you think I have been out of line or dishonest in how I've approached this thread I'd be interested to know, all I've done is try to help him. I've informed him of the consoles etc.. the differences and what it offers on MSN and I've been 100% honest the whole time.

You did the right thing in helping him out Nokkon. The only reason I didn't mention the 360 was that I was taking the approach that the decision had already been made.

I know it's not ideal that so many threads turn into PS3 v 360, but when the difference between the two is so huge, it's almost inevitable.

you obviously dont know anything

first of all you can upgrade the hard drive with any normal laptop hard drive and have up to 250GB of space so the size of HD is totally not a factor especcially when the 360 only has 9GB or something

second of all the new ps3's with the smaller hard drives have newer processors in them than the old ps3's they are smaller, run cooler. and use less power, i think up to 40% less power or something i believe, so the 40GB ps3's are a lot better

i think the 40Gb has everything going for it especcially since its a lot cheaper and it has all the things a new gamer wouldnt need removed from it

and if you find out 40GB aint enough you could always upgrade in the future, personally i dont see the need of 10GB never mind 40GB

but it has been said throughout this thread currently the 360 is the best console to go for as an all rounder, the ps3 does look to be more powerful but not a decent number of games to choose from and wii looks like more fun but the graphics are poor and is aimed at a kiddies market

do to sum it all up

ps3 - its the best console out of the lot but lacks what it needs most a decent range of decent games, its like Ronaldhino playing for Wigan it may be the best in its class but without the support it needs it doesnt get to shine on the big stage as it should

360 - best all rounder , amazing online capabilities, graphics get only a 7.5/10 because i believe the ps3 is a lot more powerful, due to playing motorstorm and warhawk, this is the console to get just now

wii - amazing kids console, can get tiresome after a while, graphics are good for the price range but when compared to ps3 it gets a 6/10

het whatever console you want, but the newer ps3's have been improved a lot and all the rubbish that you dont need has been removed, and if you do need the extra stuff, it does have usb ports, i can plug in my external memory card reader, 500GB hard drive, keyboard, etc if the 40GB isnt big enough, i personally have the 60Gb model i think, whichever one was released at launch anyway i cant remember because size really doesnt matter

np nokkon, but it was not possible to know about your conversation on msn or your relationship with the poster.

I try to make it my business not to post in versus threads anymore but if I see a thread being hijacked by this kind of nonsense ( not this thread in particular ) then I will speak out, it has put me off from starting any ps3 threads for fear of the usual rubbish starting and proper discussion and advice being flooded beneath it.

( Although it has lessened of late, but must remain vigilante )

Ehh... What about Gears of War, BioShock, The Darkness etc.. all of which are better looking than either of those 2, particularly Warhawk which is incredibly average visually. Motorstorm is a little better, but the ground textures are too stretched, and too many of the hillsides have been planar textured, resulting in a streaky, un UVW'd surface.

You say the PS3 is more powerful, yet we're still a long way from seeing it. The consoles now been out 12 months, with development boxes being out even longer, yet it still has underperforming titles with frame-rate dips.
We know this will get better, however giving a console currently putting out the best graphics a 7.5/10 against a console that has clearly underdelivered, then declaring it the most powerful just seems ludicrous.

If he could afford both that would be great though.

But wait, apparently I'm the one that doesn't know anything, or at least that's the conclusion arrived at from the very brief opinion I gave.

And where all the nonsense about expanding the HDD and newer processors came from I really don't know, I don't see how the OP would care or even know about that stuff when he says he's new to console gaming.

I can say one thing, I've had mine since launch and it runs fine, not a chance I'd swap it for one of the new 40gb models, I like backwards compatability. ;)

As I said, now IS the best time to get the 60gb version, and that's all I did say, I've had a look back and I can't see the part where I tell him you must get the 60gb version. BC is important to me, the difference between 40gb and 60gb is not. This alone makes me stand by my original opinion (And I did try to make it clear that it was simply my opinion).

I might add some of your comments make it look like you are a little misinformed. 360 has 9gb does it? Strange that of the 20gb, I had 13gb useable free space.

i had a guess at 9GB because i simply cannot rememeber the storage space on every single item i own but yeh whats the difference between 9GB and 12Gb i was hardly that far off, as for the graphics comments, i own gears of war for my 360 and its probably the best single player game ive played in a long time graphically and story wise but it was over far too quickly the game had some major flaws, you could tell the last chapter was rushed, the characters moved too slow for my liking, i dont know if thats due to the engine, the game or the console, but i think that the game was pushing the 360 very hard and i dont think their will be a game like gears of war that runs a little bit faster because i simply think the console cant do it, people say the 360 cant handle replays of pes2008, so it is lacking in power somewhere or maybe its the developers fault?, but i did say the 360 is the best console to go for, i just think from owning both consoles and my own perceptions of them the ps3 is far more powerful its just not getting used properly, as for the 60Gb being the better buy, i dont think so, thats the only thing it has going for it really is the bigger hard drive which simply isnt needed, neither is backwards compatibility, because you dont buy a new console to play older consoles games, i have only played 1 xbox game on my xbox 360 out of the 50+ i own and that was halo 2, backwards compatibility can be important to some people though but they are a very small minority, the best buy just now is the 360, then the wii then it would be the 40Gb ps3, the ultimate console in my opinion would be a combination of the best bits of both consoles put together, the cell processor combined with the RAM of the xbox 360, either gpu, with xbox's online capabilites, made to sony's standard because lets face it microsoft messed up with their consoles big time, im personally on my 3rd

the new 40gig ps3's do not have the new smaller processor, but they do have the reduce power consumption

We'd been hearing that Sony's new 40GB PS3 featured a revised design with a 65nm Cell processor and improved cooling, but sadly it looks like those reports were in error -- a Sony spokesperson has told Heise Online that the 40GB model continues to use 90mn processors, but does feature an updated design with a lower power consumption of just 120 to 140 watts, compared to 180 to 200 watts for the older models. Sony says its still planning on moving to 65nm processors in the near future, but for now, it looks like the PS3 is 90nm across the board.

if you want a PS3 then just get one, build quailty and near silence is worth every penny and the games are comming and there is a fair few that'll keep you interested in the machine
