Thinking about getting a second PS3 and PlayTV to replace V+ & my DVD player etc and to use as the main media device in the lounge so I dont have to keep moving my PS3 when we want to watch some DiVX's etc.

How does PlayTV compare with other freeview hard drive recorders (if you know) and what features does it have, i.e. can you record two channels at once, do you need to leave your PS3 on permanently if it's set to record a programme while your out etc.???

I'll try my best.. :o

To boot up from a turned off PS3 is obviously a little slower than your average PVR, maybe 30 seconds to a minute, but once your in it's a gem. The menus and guide are so quick compared to anything else I've seen, and it's got a great layout. I think theres a Demo somewhere on the PSN if you want to try to software out with some dummy channels.

You can record 1 channel and watch another, but you can't record 2 afaik, it doesn't have a series link feature, although you can set it to record the same time slot on a channel weekly.

You can set it to wake up the PS3 if it's turned off, so you don't have to worry about leaving it on, however it doesn't seem to take the boot time into account when it does this, so I tend to set recordings a few minutes early so I don't miss the beginning of a program.
If it turned itself on, it'll turn itself off when it's done unless you tell it not to.

If you've been using it and it's recording you can set it to turn itself off when it's finished.

Excellent ta. We find ourselves just watching & recording the freeview channels nowadays anyway so going to canel our contract with Virgin Media and go this route instead :)
