Hi Guys,

Soon enough Im going to be purchasing a PS3 40GB conosle. Got a few games already to start off with, so hopefully I can play on it right away.

Atm, I only have a normal 22" TV with a scart connection. Out of the box, would the console connect up fine and play as normal? I dont have to purchase any other cables for it to play on the TV?

When playing DVD's, could I use the controller as a DVD 'remote' without purchasing the BlueRay remote that can be had?

Thanks :)

Yes, you can use the supplied SCART adapter to connect the PS3 to your TV. The SIXAXIS controller works fine as a DVD/Blu-ray remote.

You should get a 360 instead, they are better value and there is loads more games out for them. Don't pay extra for blu-ray and stuff, it is a waste.

Ive already had 2 360's in the past. A core before they came out, then a Preminum when I had some extra cash.

I sold the last 360 to make the switch the BlueRay really.

I shall be getting a new Pansonic 32LXD70 very soon to go with the PS3.

Ive already picked up a few games on the cheap from these forums and that famous auction site too.

Was just wondering if it would be connected to my current TV and be used before I make the switch to the new TV.

It was a poor joke, at best :D

yeah it comes with the standard composite cable and accompanying scart block and yes the pad can be used for DVD control it's very good actually just hurts when you leave it lying around and sit on it. :p

I laughed lol :D

Anyway OP, if things are the same as the 60Gb you will have the RF adapator with composite output and scart adaptor, an Ethernet cable and mains lead (that be useful). Theres quite a few good deals about and even in high street stores the 40Gb are 299 with game and Spidey 3 on blue-ray.

Shouldnt be anything you need to buy, apart from a bluetooth headset for online, but get yourself a copy of warhawk for £30 and youll get a headset with it. IIRC the console comes tith a composite connection with a Scart adapter.

It comes with a wireless card in it, so if you want it wired you will need to buy a network card.

The only extras ive actually felt i needed to buy were the HDMI cable, the headset and the remote, the rest came with the console really.

It's got built-in Ethernet already - they didn't take it out of the 40GB version did they?

I would have thought not.

EDIT:

60GB PS3 vs 40GB PS3

Here is a summary (updated) of the differences between the 60GB PS3 and the 40GB PS3 (UK Specs). It's not just the storage capacity that's changed.
Price
A bit obvious this one, but at £299 the 40GB PS3 will be about £50 cheaper than the 60GB version. The price for the 60GB PS3 console will drop to £349*. This should bring the PS3 price more inline with the Xbox 360, unless Microsoft do a tit for tat and drop the price of the 360 again.

Ethernet Ports
Unchanged. A lot of people are reporting a loss of ethernet ports, but the 60GB console only ever shipped with one ethernet port in the UK. The two other ethernet ports were intended to provide ethernet hub functionality.

HDMI Ports
Unchanged. The 40GB version will have one HDMI port, as did the 60GB UK PS3. There was a dual HDMI version of the 60GB PS3, but it never made it to the UK. Dual HDMI ports enabled you to do dual screen 1080P, but how many people own or even have the space to run two 1080P screens anyway?!

USB Ports
Two USB ports vs the 60GB console's four USB ports.

Flash Memory Card Slots
The 40GB Console has no multi memory card port for SD cards etc.

Controller Vibration
Still no controller vibration for the 40GB console. Sony were complaining that the vibration on the DualShock 2 would interfere with the motion sensor, but this might have something to do with a lawsuit that Sony was fighting for copyright infringement.

PS2 games compatibility
No backward compatibility with PS2 games for the 40GB PS3. Sony said something about saving money here by not paying for emulation licences.

Doesnt look like it :)

Fail. :p

I would have prefered a PS3 over my 360. Yet my father (who bought the console) didnt agree. (bet he thought twice when the console naft up last week, and had to be replaced lol. I was pleased to get the HDMI version though :))

All down to an oppinion at the end of the day, the ps3's line up is starting to get into gear now. Though the 360 does have a cracking lineup up to christmas.
